Did an oil change on a friends 3.6 today. New vehicle, this is the first oil change at 3k. Found these large, non-ferrous strips in the filter. There are 6-8 of them, each roughly 1.5” long and about the thickness of a bbq grill brush strand. I’m used to small particles from break-in, but this is a first for me. No oil consumption, no apparent functional issues. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t worry about it. It looks like the filter did its job. Just make a note of it when you log the oil change in the service history and keep the images you have.
When I changed my factory fill at 500 miles, I was very surprised as the high amount of metal I found in the filter. Given the ease of access to the filter, you can always pop the filter out after a few hundred miles and check for more shavings.

Interesting…… I just done my first filter and oil change yesterday at 1039 miles. I found a few strands in the filter but they were much shorter, longest one maybe 1/4 inch long. Curious to see what the 5000 mile change will show….

Whatever that was, it was higher up the oil circulation path as that would not have survived in that shape going through the pickup, oil pump and the upper cylinder oil galleys.

I can say from prior oil analysis on my past Gladiators, it takes about 2-3 oil changes before Aluminum levels out.

While it looks bad, I would not get to amped up about it.
