So, long story to follow, but has anyone had any luck with Discount Tire balancing their new tires correctly on the first try? Not me.
So don't get me wrong, I always get my tires from DT, upwards of 10 full sets over the past 15 years, but i don't recall once that they got the balance correct the first try.
Recent story, this week I purchase new tire for Gladiator and chose BFG KO2 315's cause they're light weight and soft compound so they should balance easier and ride smooth. I asked that when they install them they Road Force them and make sure they're indexed correctly. The counter kid said they will cause all of their machines have the road force capabilities. Oookayy!
As they are installing, being done by three different people, SMH, I notice they did not index the tire by aligning the yellow marks on the valve stem. I go back inside and mention this and the guy said, quote, "Those marks don't mean anything. Just something they do at the factory." I told him I disagree but figure they'd figure it out when they road force them.
I look out and the first one is on the balancer. As I'm watching the road force wheel never touches the tire. Trying not to be a jerk, for now, I mention this and he tells me they only do that if the tire needs it and doesn't balance well. I told him I want them right and he assured me they would be.
So all done and they back it out. I notice not a single one has been indexed correctly but we'll see. The guy told me they all balanced good.
On the drive home I hit 62 mph and there is the vibration. Can tell its from the rear. I call and ask to speak to the manager and he tells me to bring it back and he'll make it right.
I got back the next day (yesterday) and I explain the events from the install and the manager says he'll do it himself. He then proceeds to tell me I should consider new wheels cause the factory wheels are not made for oversized tire. Hahaha! Okay, sales pitch over, fix my tires dammit!
He has them all pulled and rebalances the first two then on the third he has to rotate the tire based on the road force reading. What do ya know, it indicates the proper alignment to be where the yellow marks line up with the valve stem. He makes that adjustment and after balancing the tire and wheel go for requiring a while slew of weights to just a few.
Now I become the jerk and request that all the tires be broke down, rotated to index properly, then road force and balance. The manager was nice about and did as i requested and I'm happy to report they ride perfectly now.

I hate having to be that guy standing at the back of my truck, and in fact its become such a regular occurrence my wife will not go with me to DT any longer, hahaha.
Discount Tire, you guys have the tools and the capabilities to do a good job. Stop being in such a rush to get the job done and do it right the first time. It'll save you time, money and make your customers happier the first time.

End of rant!

Just a suggestion...but the shop I bought my 37" tires from used balancing beads to balance my tires. I was skeptical but they worked perfectly, smooth ride.

OP, agree they should index the tires correctly but the manager could have proved his point on aftermarket wheels, stock wheels are 7.5” wide and 315/70/17s are too wide for that size tire, many places will not mount them on wheels that don’t meet the required width spec. Glad it all worked out.
