Yesterday I had 5 tires removed from old wheels and mounted and balanced on new wheels at Discount Tire in Campbell, CA and they charged me $260.

You pay more for installs bringing in your own tires. You take up a bay and time for minimal profit on their end.

Buy tires from discount and mount and install is usually $22 a tire + environmental fees

Just how the numbers work out.

I paid 4wheelParts around $100 to balance 5 37s on beadlocks in 22’. I mounted them. I wouldn’t trust anyone but myself to mount a beadlock and I’m not sure they did that anyway. I wasn’t particularly concerned about what I was charged given most labor rates.

Is that including installing on the JT?

I don't think my bill was more than $200 for 4 mounted and balanced. I swapped the set at home.

its been a couple years since buying tires. Last time was through Discount tire. bought the tires through them and had them mount and balance. Total did not seem to bad. somewhere around $1200 to $1600 I think.

This time I bought tires from Northridge 4x4 called up Discount tire and to dismount, mount and road force balance they quoted me $350 dollars total, plus disposal fee on each tire.

I was like what! Thank you, good bye.
Keep in mind a basic install, not including road force or match balancing is $22.00- $24.00ea depending on wheel diameter when purchased from Discount Tire. When you request tires be road forced/match balanced, it involves more labor and can increase the price from the basic install. If ever there is a question of price, please give the Manager of the store an opportunity to explain, or adjust the price to what you feel is acceptable. Your complete satisfaction is our number one goal.

Didn't ask if that was pulling or dropping off. When he said that amount and I responded in shock. he did not make an attempt to explain just said yep, I was gone.

Oh I understand that you pay more if you do not buy the tires there, but $22 with purchase and $87.50 without. That is a lotto me.
As for taking up a bay I don't buy it. Seeing as they offer lifetime maintenance (balance and rotate) for the life of the tire at $22 and was told that was road force balance, when I bought tires the last time. Every time you have them balanced they are using a bay and not making any more money. Until you buy again in a few years.

I didn’t buy my tires there, had them rebalanced there, 37x12.5R17 and it was $100 OTD from what I recall.

At least here around these parts, there are quite a few places that would mount and balance for $30-$40 a tire.

Yeah, I ended up checking with a local shop, quoted $100.

I would let pay more than $50 per wheel. If you buy them at the place you’re having them mounted, typically they will rotate for free.

Are you sure they didn't tack on extra services with that quote, like TPMS rebuild/replace?

No idea. Nothing was mentioned.

Its all good, I got my tires mounted today at a new management, local tire shop. $151 for dismount, mount, road force balance and 4 tire disposals.
