So, moving back to Europe. Wife misses family and I’m on a pension and hate living in San Diego….
Anyway. I can’t imagine being without my beloved Mojave 6m.
But is it worth it to bring?
We’ll likely be living around Collado Mediano (Madrid suburb).

Do ya go through the trouble of getting it legal (mostly lights) and shipping? Or do ya just pick up a LC70 or Defender when you get there.
I’ve owned both and the gladiator is a shit ton more comfortable to take on trips. But the others are a hell of a lot more comfortable to maintain in Europe (or anywhere really)
Probably 1-3 years, but maybe permanent. Or move on to NZ from there.
Thoughts?

Get something cool like a Hilux with a diesel or a Nissan Patrol. Sounds like you earned that pension, go live life.

I think you can get a JT out in Europe too, albeit the European market doesn’t have the Mohave desert, so they didn’t get that model option.

Yea. There are some vehicles that we tend to envy over here. Heck… I bet I could get a jimny. Probably the right thing to do. Go over there with a fresh check from selling the jeep. But that jeep is my favorite thing in a while

A Jimmy, a real Defender, niches of the Defender like the Overfincher, a G-Wagon that isn’t $400,000, VW makes a midsize truck called the Amaroc or something like that too. There are off brand stuff we don’t even see here too like a Skoda.

Every once in a while I’ll fall into a pit of YouTube videos where the dudes aren’t speaking English or Spanish but I can understand the fun they’re having even though the vehicles are unfamiliar.

The vw is just the ranger yea? Which is basically a focus, like the bronco. But it would be nice to have a non American made Toyota.

I honestly am not too sure if I’m honest. If it’s a ranger, it certainly isn’t a bronco sport… just carry some spare tie rods lol.

The jimmy would be something to be had, especially for how cheap it is. Kinda what Jeep used to be.

Don’t sleep on a Nissan Patrol either… super cool. Europe also doesn’t push the clean diesel thing from what I understand so it isn’t as rare, as complex or as worrisome as most vehicles out there are diesel powered.

Writing from experience having lived and traveled extensively in Europe - You'll certainly stand out with the Mojave but that might not always be ideal. We owned a US spec Jetta TDI and the nice thing about that was that other than the short plate, we blended in with the local traffic. There is a lot of petty crime in Spain and the Jeep like liable to be broken into as in the EU it says "I have money". It will also be painful at the pump. Even with the TDI's great fuel economy it was painful to pay $80 euros to fill the tank, in the context of the Jeep's 17mpg you are going to feel that $7-8 a gallon fuel.

My recommendation if you can swing it, keep the Mojave but get a little beater skoda or Seat for running around. The jeep is also likely to have trouble parking and driving in the old cities. I've had to reverse through 5 blocks of medieval streets when our GPS tried to lead us up a stairwell. In a truck as large as the JT, (it's big by EU standards) you are going to have to plan ahead.

Yea. Last time I lived in Dalmatia I had a lada Niva for fartin around and a fiat abarth (new one) for longer trips. It was convenient to have a city car sized car to go into old city centres.
But I’d see convoys of JKs on the Italian highways. I assume US soldiers mostly.
Maybe I do a 2cv this time around.

I am aware of the crime threat, but I’ve never witnessed it in person. I know the Europeans think of criminal as just another job. Barcelona is pretty much run by organized crime. But it’s more extortionate than window breaking.

Ha, yeah most likely soldiers and airman. I was stationed in Stuttgart so there was always a wild assortment of vehicles around. It wasn't unusual for me to see five or six Porsches parked along the street in front of our apartment, or to pass a Mercedes SLS in Boeblingen.

A 2CV would be a hero move, I was dreaming hard for one and used to see them for under 10k.

Barcelona isn't bad but my wife's phone was stolen from the front seat near Bilbao. Anarchistas probably, IYKYK
