LOL - Yes, I know you can do that, it's been known since these came out.

That's exactly why I mentioned in my prior post that there's at least a couple of forum members who have rigged a way to lock those down so they can't be opened with the tailgate closed. There are ways with simple hardware items costing under 10 bucks or so to literally lock these down firmly. You must open the tailgate to unlatch those latches or hooks.

So with 10 or 15 bucks, these factory covers CAN be locked - I saw folks locking them down shortly after I bought mine.

This link is ONE solution, another guy used a gate latch or hook. I've seen at least 3 ways to do this with simple local hardware and a few minutes of time -

(there are others if one looks)

During my search, I discovered the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Signature which is a canvas like material instead of vinyl. Unfortunately, the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Signature is not made in a size for the Gladiator.

Then, I discovered the Rugged Ridge Armis Soft Folding Tonneau Cover which appears to be identical to the Extang cover, but it is available in a size for the Gladiator.

Anyway, are these covers really made by the same company and just branded differently?

Does anyone have an idea how do access the bed without destroying a rigid trifold or the tailgate?
I just returned from a northern Alabama trip and went to gather up some stuff that was in the bed of my truck. Double clicked the unlock button to unlock the tailgate, I heard it actuate, but the tailgate is not open. I attempted to use the key same result.

That would depend on the cover you have….. Is it a trifold? If yes….how do you open each section? I have a Bakflip tri-fold. It uses cables to open each section.

If I needed to open the cover - I could probably get in there with a metal clothes hanger and pull the cord and flip the last section up.

Thanks for making me realize I should have been more specific. I’d like to avoid extra rails and clamps. I had them on a previous truck and the clamps always seemed to be in the way.
I picked up a decent "fold up" tonneau cover off of Amazon that use the clamps you want to avoid. My 2024 came with an OEM tonneau cover that uses a much different and improved (so far) closing latch at the tailgate area. Might look into that one from MOPAR.

What did they change in the 2024 MOPAR cover vs. prior years?

You'd have to destroy my rollup (MOPAR) cover to get into the bed. There's no cable to hook onto with the stock MOPAR roll-up cover and I made latches so that you can't even pry it up without bending the crap out of it. It's hooked on each and and the only way to get it unhooked is either bend the heck out of it, or get the tailgate open.
In other words, the "weekend warrior" flip-up end won't flip up on mine. It's hooked down on both ends.

I don't know what they had in the past from MOPAR (mine wasn't OEM) but the new one has a pretty slick latch at the tailgate that doesn't hang down into the bed. It took a bit to figure it out, but once I got the hang of it, its slick.
