Open...yes...close, sort of it you are careful and do it slowly. I normally pop up the last couple inches and then close. There is a rubber flap at the end that if you just slam it up can get stuck in between the tailgate. The benefit of this design is when it’s closed it’s closed. The downside is you can’t just slam it shut without thinking about it. If you want that I think the BAK revolver 4 has that design for closing but not sure how tight the seal gets on the tailgate and also not sure if you can get it with a fabric top to match the soft top like the Rugged ridge one, also I believe when rolled up the aluminum is silver and not powder coated black which personally would annoy me with my color scheme. I’ve had mine for over a year and I’m 100% happy with it, so far it’s holding up strong with constant use.Can you open and close the tailgate without opening the cover?
