I’ve read a bunch of threads about tonneau covers, but I didn’t see an answer to my (possibly stupid) question…

Is there a good after market tonneau cover that can use the factory mounting holes and doesn’t require the installation of additional rails or clamps?

Any information is appreciated.

There are lots of good covers out there that use clamps to hold the frame to the bed.
Thanks for making me realize I should have been more specific. I’d like to avoid extra rails and clamps. I had them on a previous truck and the clamps always seemed to be in the way.

The Bestop tonneau uses an existing threaded hole to reduce the need for clamps to 1 per side.

After using my factory cover for more than 2 years now - I'm sold on it and if anything happens to it I'll likely replace it with another factory cover. Doesn't answer your question, but I don't see anything I'd like better out there and this one has been zero problems since it was replaced under warranty right off the bat.

The Truxedo LoPro uses existing holes, and out-of-the-way brackets front and back. It also comes with a lifetime warranty.

HAHA - should have clarified/specified - the soft roll-up version. I like it.
And when I had the truck tent in it takes 2 or 3 minutes to completely remove the cover.

Gotta agree with papa here I was always a tri fold guy. I had a roll up on my previous truck and it used the Velcro’s which were ok but always had issues keeping water out. I also went with the soft roll up on gladiator. It matches the soft top perfectly and goes directly into factory hardware. It’s pretty damn water proof inside too. I did notice this week during a wild wind storm that it partially bent some of the rubber a bit I’ll get to messing around with it when it’s warmer. I’m curious if this jeopardizes the water proofing. You can find these pretty cheap around. I got it for 300 locally which it about what I was gonna pay for another one off Amazon plus the fit is super flush.

This sounds ideal. What brand is it and where did you get it?

I just got a Tyger Auto T3 off of Amazon. I don't really like the way a truck looks with a tonneau cover, so I didn't want a permanent-ish one, but I do realize how handy they are when you need to transport stuff. This one just uses clamps, and is easy to install and remove as needed.

It’s the official mopar tonneau for gladiator. Depending on your area you can find take offs for $200-400 prob even some on the local gladiator forums. It’s a quality cover. If your going aftermarket the tygers listed here were always good bang for buck but when I was wearing I don’t recall them having roll ups. The mopar matches the twill premium soft top 1:1 so it looks flush and as a bonus it uses the bed mounting points. The downfall is that it is not lockable. You can open it with the bed door up. Though the illusion of privacy and security of a soft top/cover…most people won’t touch it but I wouldn’t store expensive gear overnight in there depending on your area. Also keep in mind if you have a 2021 that did not come with the factory cover you won’t have the pre drilled bolts. You’ll need to get washers/nuts from home depot to attach or drill in a rivnut if you want a perm fix. I’m using nuts right now but when I get my bed bed lined I’ll install the rivnuts.

There are a couple of threads here that show forum members' solution to the non-locking bit AND the best part - stock hardware from Lowe's or Home Depot and so on. Out in my shop now between plating and riveting so no chance to do a search for a little while but the solutions offered by members looked decent and I believe one of them may have even used existing holes. And if later you didn't like that solution, you simply unscrew it.
It's a latch that hooks down in the back several inches - you MUST open the tailgate to release those hooks I mentioned.

Any tonneau cover is a "slow 'em down" solution at best - we know if someone is really determined, they'll get in and destroy things in the process. But it at least gets rid of the "theft of opportunity" types.

Dang, I should have ordered one with my truck. I seem to remember the price being less on the jeep.com build page?

nah you can indeed open it with the tailgate latched

You can 100% open this from the outside. Most people will not know nor try but any gladiator owner with one will know you can. But as you said yeah it’s a slow em down. I personally just used nuts and bolts to attach the hardware super easy. Yeah I summer I’ll do the rivnuts.
