I towed ~2000lbs roughly 500 miles over the weekend. My JT drives like a dream since. I don’t have any high hanging revs, my engine doesn’t sound like a jet plane climbing a hill, my MPG is roughly 1.3mpg better than usual. Is it possible the firmware was delivered confused? I only used 4 pin and the 500 miles towing was 17mpg. Since getting home, I’m getting 17mpg city which is 5 miles up hill and 5 miles back down the hill daily.

EDIT: 500 miles towing at 75mph through the hills of Kentucky.

Mine is a similar story. It took some time for the suspension to settle in (maybe ~200-300 miles).
The automatic transmission is adaptive. I wasn’t thrilled with how the transmission shifted/felt until I had over 1,000 miles on it.
Similarly…my JT likes to be under load. I swear the transmission feels more “sure of itself” (how I’d put it) towing ~2,000 lbs or so (I regularly tow a utility trailer) than it does unladen.

Not sure where your odometer is, but I’ll say that my first ~1,500 miles or so were absolutely abysmal, fuel economy wise.

That may not be enough load to make it make any changes.
My truck handled like crap, got poor mpg and struggled on hills with my car hauler behind it - empty. It would have been about 1600 pounds, maybe 1700 pounds, empty with the tools and signs I had on it.

When I loaded my car on the trailer and towed 5,000 pounds, the truck was a totally different truck and did great.

These can't be "delivered confused".
Trailer connector type won't matter.
Torque will matter.
Also don't go by mpg. So many many factors can impact that, it's not a good tell of anything.
They sense towing by the load.

If you use software to monitor things on these, you can see it sense the torque load on the engine.
Yes, it takes some real load for it to really matter. It almost seems as if anything under 1500 pounds or so doesn't do much to make it change to towing shift patterns, etc.
But put a trailer behind it with some weight, and it changes personality totally.

Tow/Haul mode is supposed to be automatic based on the load/demand on the transmission.
From this, can you tell where I was stopped at a light, and when I was taking off from a stop?

I would assume the high % is starting out or going uphill, the low or zero is stopped, and the rest are the loads in-between. Interesting that it tracks down to the 100ths of seconds.

I tow a 5000+ lb (loaded weight) travel trailer with my JT and I love the way it drives pulling that load around towns and country roads/highways. It can be a bit obnoxious on the interstate at hills though. I'll sometimes put it in manual mode at those speeds so I'm in control of downshifting at slight hills. It's quite happy towing that way.

I was a few beverages deep when I decided to post this last night. Just a wild thought I had because the trailer was the only thing different. Wouldn’t the truck know when the trailer electric is plugged in?

I rolled over to 6000 miles on this trip. My JT rode much better towing this light load and bed of gear.

No. The lighting and trailer brakes are on different circuits and their own dedicated fuses.

I do have to agree with the fact that these JT's will tow quite well with a bit more than a 2K load behind. I have towed with anywhere from 2K to just under 4K. Funny thing is the 4K load felt more stable than the lighter load. And I have a JTM with the lower rating. Go figure.

It almost appears as if these almost ignore the lighter trailers, but the heavy once they change personality for stability, shifting and so on.
If I judged my first JT based on my first outing with an empty trailer, I was really regretting having bought the truck.
But with the extra 3,000 pounds on, it impressed me a lot for its size and width and engine.
These should have no issues with 4,000 pounds (depending on frontage, of course)
I was pulling 5,000 with the lighter, narrower, Overland.

That makes a lot of sense - same here. Mine tows my travel trailer better than it towed a little rental u-haul last year when I was helping my daughter move. That u-haul which couldn’t have been more than 1,500 lbs felt like it was fighting me all the way. I even stopped and repositioned the load just to see if that might help it behave and pull easier but it didn’t. My much heavier travel trailer is stable as can be back there and pulls right along.
