Thought I’d post a short review of my new Toyo Open Country M/T’s.
These are a fairly common choice so I wont go too far with the tread, etc. I am very familiar with these having had a set of 37’s on my former JTR. Great bite, good cleaning, tough sidewall. A bit noisy but that’s to be expected from a full on mud tire.
I couldnt get 35x12.50’s in my area without a fairly long wait but @Discount Tire here in Birmingham found me a set of 315/70/17’s that we could stuff onto these stock mojave rims. The tires measure out at 34.6 inches tall and 12.7 inches wide per toyo’s website. People familiar with these know they are a heavy tire, these are load range C and toyo says they are 76 pounds a piece.
I’ve dropped probably 2 mpg running stock 4.10’s but the jeep is still plenty lively. I am going for a “stock +” type look for this jeep and to me the look is just right. I’m running them at 37 lbs now but will likely settle them down to 32 or so in the next few days. No rubbing lock to lock. I have a trail ride planned next month and if they rub I will update here.
I have read all the pros and cons about putting a tire with this width on a stock rim but honestly I would not hesitate. Great looks, good bite, and a strong tire to get you out and back without coughing up more money for wheels. A set of 5 of these (including spare mounted in stock location) ran me close to $2200 out the door. Money well spent, highly recommend.
