Anyone running these tires? I am super curious how you like them. I’m loving the agresssive sidewall for a hybrid-tread tire. They offer 37x12.5R17 and 37x13.5R17, but both are E load rated. Not sure if this will make them stiffer when aired down or not. Opinions seem to vary on this.

YMMV but I've ran Nitto Trail Grapplers, Toyo RT Trails, Toyo AT3s and have come away feeling they're all overly stiff and loud. I've never ran a set past 20k miles.

I also assume now that manufacturers can put the hybrid label on anything. These just look like MTs with the tread spacing and the large surface area of the lugs with the absence of any significant siping.

Since you and I appear to be located maybe 30 mins from each other, I'd recommend the MT Baja Boss ATs. Ive had no issue with any weather we've had with them for the last 4 years now. Have about 30k on mine now and they're still quieter than the Toyo RT trails I had before and sold with maybe 10k on them.

The last tires I chose were Cooper STT Pros on a Tacoma and I loved how they looked. They were 33s in load E, but I didn’t find the sidewalls incredibly stiff. They were tough off road and never had a puncture.
In the snow they were not great, but I wasn’t often in snow so that’s not my first consideration.

My heart wants to run another MT for the looks, but I might be happier with a non-MT tire on my daily driver. Gonna be a tough choice. These Toyo RT Pro caught my eye because I love a good chunky sidewall.

I can relate for sure, luckily for me the Baja AT checked both the looks and performance boxes.

Preference is entirely subjective and ultimately renders these conversations kind of like an external checks and balances exercise.

If you can make it through enough contrary opinions and challenges you will ultimately find yourself buying these tires. If not you return to the decision making process eventually ending up with whatever prevails against the test of external factors.

Or...youre a bit more internalized in these things and you never make forum posts, ultimately picking and choosing on your own bias.

So for the sake of the trials youre outward seeking post is going to bring on, Toyo makes very durable tires, often heavier and stiffer due to that durability. The RT Pro will probably do just fine with all the rain and standing water we get because of the void between the inner tread and shoulder tread. They will also almost certainly struggle in slick conditions due to the very very limited siping. Road noise is anyone guess, I'd assume their louder than say the OE Falkens.


Looks wise, the Trail RTs I had were good looking, these appear to be even better looking, thats an easy yes.

If you ran the STT Pros w/o issue Im sure these will probably serve you just fine. I never ran the STT Pros but did run ST Maxx, XLTs, and MT ATZ P3 and Baja Boss (MT is a Cooper brand). The Coopers were softer than the Toyos Ive ran.

I dont think weight should be a concern for the JTD.

I say do it :)

Yeah, I think my biggest concern is the potential stiffness with the Toyo sidewalls when aired down. You mentioned it just now with a very specific comparison to some Cooper tires, so that's actually very helpful for me since I've ran a Cooper. I had a friend running Toyo Open Country MTs and I saw firsthand how stiff the sidewalls were when aired down compared to my STT Pros. I felt like my Coopers weren't nearly as stiff. Both were E load tires in similar sizes.

Its odd to me since both the Baja Boss ATs and the ST Maxxs had Coopers Armor-Tek 3 and Powerply XD sidewalls which are supposed to be more resistant to puncture and damage, yet both felt softer than the Toyos.

Thanks for the specifics. The friend of mine who runs the Mickey T Baja Boss AT used to run Cooper ST Maxx as well. The only problem I had with my Coopers was one tire would not balance well. After some wobbling at highway speed I had it rebalanced. Problem came back. Got it rebalanced. Problem came back AGAIN. Third time they said it was out of round and replaced it under warranty. I wish they would've warrantied it the second time, but glad they took care of it. I did have some slight vibrations at times after that, so I marked the inside of my tires at the rim with a yellow paint pen. This confirmed they were spinning a little bit on the wheel when aired down to 8-10 psi, and I think it threw off the balance a little bit. Other than those annoyances I loved the tires. I ran over lots of sharp stuff like limbs and sharp rocks along the sidewalls. Never any issue. I think for the absolute smoothest ride on road I should go with AT, but I do love a mean looking MT. I haven't seen anyone running these Toyo RT Pros yet, so I figured I'd start asking around on opinions.

I took them through Florida mud and did all kinds of stupid shit at windrock at 7 psi(on beadlocks) and they still look like new and ride as quiet as any other AT I've had even at 20k miles. The sidewalls are a bit stiff but I run them at 28 psi and they're just fine.

I'll also mention that 2 tires took .25 ounce to balance and the worst tire was 1 oz.

I have the RT Trails in 37 and love them. Still very quiet at 35k and I’ll easily get another 20k out of them. They’ve been to Moab, Texas, AZ, and SoCal in all weather conditions and never a hiccup. I do a 5 tire rotation every 5k miles. Can’t speak for the RT Pro, that’s a little too aggressive for my 72 mile round trip commute for work every day. Definitely a good looking tire though.

Heard what about the STT Pros exactly?
Balancing issues. Of course Ive also heard of them with the Mickeys as well, but over at Tacoma world the STT Pros were very popluar and balancing issues seemed to be not uncommon.

I ordered a set in 40x12.5. They're backorder till November so I'll have to wait to provide my personal experience.

FWIW I'm currently running a 38x13.5 Falken RT01 and it's probably my favorite tire. Great on the trails and has gotten us cross country pulling a small camper.

Hoping this RT provides the same experience.

I’ll be curious to hear how you like them after some time passes. I was surprised they make a 40x12.5. Looked them up and they also make a 42x13.5. Damn.
