2025 Rubicon Mojito. Previously -2020 Gobi Sport S (Max Tow)
So, I am considering building a JT and trading in my current. My current one has aftermarket wheels / tires that I had the OEM TPMS switched over to when mounted.

Now I have my factory sport S wheels sitting around with the stock AT tires unmounted. When i go to trade in, I will need to get the factory tires mounted back onto the factory sport S wheels, BUT i do not have the TPMS as they are on my current set up.

What is the best way to get it ready for trade in? Buy some TPMS and have them put on the stock set up? Which ones do I buy? I dont want to spend a lot to just trade it in.

Will they automatically get detected by my truck?

When i take my current set up and switch over to another truck, will it auto detect, or do they follow the truck they came from? Really confused on how this works and the best way to go about my scenario.

To answer a few of your questions:

The sensors for FCA products are not tied to the vehicle or location. They will be picked up by the system after you drive for a little while. I ordered new ones from All Mopar Parts when I got new wheels and tires so I didn't have to switch mine over. That isn't the cheapest way to go but you know you are getting the right ones. I have seen people say that ones from a JK etc will work but I wouldn't really believe that unless I saw it. If you have a sport then you don't have select tire fill which makes a difference.
I did mine soon after the JT came out so I would guess they are available on ebay by now for a better price.

So you are saying if I go with a rubicon I’m gonna want to switch rubicon’s over to my current aftermarket wheel setup? It currently has ones from a sport s max tow. Not sure if the tow part makes a difference with TPMS.

I’m just trying to think of the cheapest snd easiest solution in prep for trade and future.

Maybe the model year makes a difference? I ordered from All Mopar Parts 68464665AB for my ‘21 which the only difference being the last letter. After mounting my new wheels took less than a minute to recognize these sensors. As mentioned, cheaper options but I prefer less surprises.

AA vs AB only means a minor revision. Could be any little tiny detail, but since it's only the last letter it's a minor revision. Nothing to write home about. It will work in any application where the AA would work.
TPMS sensors - I understand Rubicon has a slightly different one - but for all other levels, the same TPMS work and I suspect the one for Rubicon works in any of them. I've guessing based on what I've read here.
I'd only ever buy MOPAR TPMS. I bought from Benny - links in a post above.
If you have the correct TPMS sensors, simply put the wheels with TPMS on the truck and drive - it will connect.
i used to swap back and forth between my stock Overland wheels and tires, and a set of Rubicon take-off wheels and tires. Each time I swapped, the truck read what was on the wheels at the 4 corners. No issue.
I sold those Rubicon wheels and tires with the TPMS and the new owner need simply install the wheels/tires on his Sport and they will just plain work.
There is no programming needed, simply install - IF you get the correct sensors.
I know a person can save money buying cheaper on eBay, etc. - but unless they guarantee you in writing that they ARE MOPAR and they ARE the correct part number - it's a risk, IMO. You get what you pay for. Also - how old are the ones you buy on ebait? 2 or 3 years old? Who knows - and the batteries are typically good for 6 to 7 years so if they are selling you old stock from timbuktu, and you want to keep your truck, well..........
Sometimes I'm willing to go cheaper and take the risk that things like sensors will work - but since someone will charge me to diagnose or even replace faulty sensors, you could match or exceed the cost of buying the correct sensors from a forum vendor/sponsor and being done with it for years.

Weigh the risks, the costs, you figure what you are willing to put into it as far as risks and go from there. I honestly found that buying through Benny with the free shipping code he furnished was not much more than the no-name ebay stuff. And if I had an issue with anything bought from him since they are genuine MOPAR parts, there's a 2 year warranty - any dealer would have to make it right, not just an ebait seller who claims "free returns" (at what cost in cash and time)

I get new TPMS sensors when I put new wheels on a vehicle. I usually go to Discount Tire. I buy the sensors along with the wheels and tires so that they are responsible for making them work.

Manufacturer has to install them before initial purchase per Federal law.
Once sold to a private individual no one is responsible for them being on the vehicle.

Bet you get dinged for less than a new set would cost and the installation fee the tire shop charges if you don't install them on the wheels.

Just buy some TMPS and put them in the old tires.

One shop, a discount tire sort of shop (NOT THE Discount Tire) wanted about 100 bucks to install TPMS sensors if I supplied them.
There would have gone all of the so-called savings. A Jeep dealer didn't charge me anything extra when I bought tires from them and took them the TPMS sensor and a wheel to use for the spare.

There's a lot to be said for getting "the works" from one place - if something isn't right, they have to deal with it and make it work since they can't blame any other vendor! Some places will say "we can't figure it out, go back to cousin Bubba you bought them from" - and rightfully so, IMO.
I hate it when people bring me the parts to fix something and they've bought it cheap online.
I've had two cases in the past few months where the part was wrong or there was a problem with it not working right. If I have to guarantee it - _I_ furnish the correct parts.

The best answer is maybe. The Rubicon and maybe others now come with select tire fill where the Jeep beeps the horn when you get to your pre selected pressure. There was a lot of talk when the JT first came out as to which sensors you had to have. I would honestly guess that probably later in production that first year they all had the sensors that would work with that feature whether that model had it or not.

I did just look at all Mopar parts and they list the same part number for the sport and the Rubicon so the ones you swapped to your aftermarket set up should be good to go.
