These limited slips are not preloaded with a spring. It takes a fair bit of torque bias to lock them up. I would even step out on a limb and say the additive is not that crucial in these being not pre loaded. Noise will not be a huge concern and less additve will lead to better lockup

That's exactly what I figured after checking mine out. Other designs I've worked with had cones and springs, and the early design used by AMC (and they later sold their differentials/designs/etc. to Dana) had wave plates in among the friction disks and plates, giving them a fair preload. Forget the friction modifier on those and you had noise and short life.

I'd personally use - in my own - a fluid like Amsoil or others that said they were for LSD operation. I did that with my cars and skipped the additive.
That's what I've done in my 73 with limited slip and that thing gets abused and pounded on hard. I did the same for my disk type model 20 under my 70. Never had any issues and when I restored it for later show and sale, it looked like new inside. It would leave 2 perfectly identical black tracks all the way across the 4 lane when I nailed it and was quiet around corners.

Thanks for the help guys. I called Lucas this morning and they said what most say. It already contains an additive and if I hear any noise afterwords just get 4-6oz of additive in.

The Valvoline gear oil at Walmart comes in the awesome pouches instead of bottles (way easier!) AND it has friction modifier already in the fluid.

That's what I just meant for the Lucas HD. The "friction modifier." I don't know why I said additive.

Manual recommends sae 75w85 gl-5 with a friction modifier if you have the Trac-Lok limited slip.

Someone posted a response from Jeep that said 75w140. I tried to compare the sales codes and decided that it applied to my Overland with trac-lok
It was in a thread about which lube to use - Jeep responded basically with 75w140 The sales codes mentioned matched my truck.

Idk... the shop I used for my re-gear is a reputable place and they use 85w-140 unless they screwed up when they were telling me. They never mentioned anything about friction modifier either. It's going it today. I already dropped it off. I guess if I here anything I'll take it back and get some put in. It's been a rough day. My tazer live function stopped working after I stopped at store on my way to work and my shifting felt horrible so I'm assuming the unit was not syncing properly with the JT. I pulled over and had some codes with a check engine but accidentally cleared them. I did a full reboot and got back to normal just in time to drop it off at the shop right next door to my job. I havnt even stepped into work andy blood pressure is probably sky high.

My understanding is the M220 is the only axle you can get on the JT with the Trac Lok.
