I think the steering box needs adjusted. The parts I was told needing replacement, I bet it was the half fast quick fix without actual diagnostics. But either way, things I wanted anyway.

But now is the wait... To see if the issue is fixed with new parts or, if I need to take it back in again.

As I stated earlier, I did look at everything and nothing looked abnormal. Everything was tight. Bushings look good. The only thing I didn't check or mess with is the gearbox adjustment. With the truck off, there's a lot of play in steering wheel. So I still think that's my problem
Check the joint between steering column and the steering gear input shaft. There really shouldn't be play and it may not be inside the box - could be, but check the simple first. If you misadjust that steering gear you'll not be happy.

UPDATE: I was told steering dampners (yes plural) were ordered yesterday and arriving today. I had my tires rotated and dynamic balanced, still have the shimy. I will update tomorrow. I know what parts of the road on my morning commute cause it so i can trigger it almost at will.

If there is slop in the steering box, the input will turn and the output won't.

I know. I can turn the steering wheel probably to about 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions from center before the wheels turn.

UPDATE from my steering dampner replacement. No issues on the drive to work this morning. Steering wheel never shimmied and felt tight.

Either that really was the problem or the tech inadvertently fixed something I did wrong with my lift. I had been back through my lift three times, but doesnt mean i didnt do everything right.

Ill update again after this weekend. So far, my issue seems resolved.

Thanks so much for posting this. I just bought a ‘21 JT Rubicon that the previous owner lifted and it has the exact same issue. Not really death wobble, but was a little scary when it happened the first time. Same parameters you mention - between 40-50MPH, and I can accelerate out of it. I also know where/when I can make it happen on certain roads.

I just got it so I haven’t done anything yet after getting it home, but I was already planning to re-torque the obvious stuff but this gives me another thing to consider. I don’t really want to ‘hide’ the issue and would rather fix it, but if the steering dampener really is worn out, then I can try another one and see what happens, after trying everything else.

I have not had a single issue since the replacement. Everything that would cause it, no longer causes it. Again, what I experienced was not death wobble, but a shimy. I have not felt it since my steering damper was replaced.

Maybe you had a bad damper. I had the shimmy after replacing the steering box and the damper was bad.

just sucks it started happening after my lift. Been tracing it for months, wish i had done this sooner ( i just assumed i did something wrong doing my MC lift. i went through my entire lift three times and three times on an alignment rack). My confidence that the jeep can handle pot holes has improved drastically this weekend. lmao.
