Today I was presented with the opportunity to trade my bone stock 2020 JTR in for another 2020 JTR. The color year and mileage (3k difference) were all nearly identical. The kicker is the “new” JTR has a higher level trim package and all the aftermarket parts I wanted to purchase for mine minus a winch. The price difference was $5k after tax and fees. It was a no brainer decision and my wife even told me I was sleeping on the couch if I didn’t pull the trigger. I’m extremely excited about this purchase. Previous JT vs “new”

I guess I'm confused. Did you have a Rubicon before? Why would the dealer be willing to make this deal? Nonetheless, you're happy and that's what matters. I'm just trying to understand what just happened, lol.

I am good friends (20 years) with the sales manager. When I purchased the original JT he did not have one in stock or in that price range. He told me to have patience which I do not have. But he cut me a deal anyway when he did get one in. And I can assure you he is not losing any money either way 😂

I gotcha. That makes more sense. 👍

To find another Gator with a painted roof and spec'd as you would want is pretty rare. Nice job. That's a steal especially considering you were only $5K apart including tax, title, license and fees. In Los Angeles county (10.5%), a $35K JT would have been almost $5K in TTL alone.

So you spent $5k to get used mods already installed, not knowing the use/abuse history of the vehicle or the quality of the install instead of buying new parts and putting them on the truck you've had since new? Mileage doesn't tell the whole story in my opinion. Not a move I'd make but congratulations on the newish ride. Personally I want to pick the exact mods, tires, suspension, shocks, etc especially since you were effectively paying for them anyway.

I think for some people they like paying for modded vehicles. It saves them the time of shopping around for the parts and labor work. I myself always buy bone stock and build it myself - its just more fun! :)

I was going to keep that to myself, but since you brought it up, that was my first thought. I’d need to know a lot about the history of the vehicle and also take a very close look at what was installed and the quality of installation. I just spent all of my spare time in the last few weeks installing new bumpers, front and rear lights, winch, etc and it took me a few weeks because I took painstaking detail in the details so I know that everything I did will work properly for years. I also spent weeks of research on the products that I purchased. I get the convenience, but I’m glad I did it vs always wondering about the quality of the parts, skill, and labor of what was installed.

I’ve worked in the auto industry long enough, but a long shot, that I’ve seen way too many Jeeps and trucks traded in which horrible work done to it and I would almost never buy a used modified Jeep or truck or Jeep truck lol.

Hopefully, his was all installed properly and with quality parts.

A lot of bone stock vehicles with issues are also traded in early. We had a guy on the Ram 1500 forum that was bragging about how much money he saved by buying a used 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel with only 18,000 miles on the odometer. To make a long story short, the truck was in the shop multiple times for a leaking sunroof, turbo replacement, and a myriad of other issues. After about 4 months, he finally traded it for a Ford F350. The truck was bone stock and everything was under warranty, but he lost faith in it pretty quickly, especially when the dealer failed to get a few things right.

I’m well aware, I’ve bought and sold thousands of cars, but modified opens up a lot more potential areas of concern.

Nothing wrong with the new Tacomas. They finally fixed everything I hated about them. The Colorado/Canyon are nice too.
