Never let go of that motorcycle…never!
Which one? My RZ350 or the XR1200. The RZ is already a classic. I paid $900 for it 2 years old in 1986 with 800 miles on it. It's now worth about 12k.

The XR will probably go up at some point. I need to spend some more time on it. I've always gravitated towards light bikes.

Have you ridden the 390?
Not yet, but I just found a '22 model in stock at a nearby dealer. Hope to get out there soon.

I wasn't thinking about a Himalayan, but just found a dealer close to me with them in stock. Talk about old school thumpers! Interesting story behind them, and at less than $6K, it's hard to ignore.

This one is a bit customized.

Also curious to hear your take on the bike when you get the chance to ride it.
I test rode a very low miles used bike and curious if what I found with the lack of bottom and mid range was just a fluke of that bike.

FYI, Less than 6K should be completely out the door cost for a new one… yes, hard to ignore at that price…

Both really, but I was talking about the XR1200… I have always liked that bike with the dual rotor setup in the front… I almost traded my 48 for the Roadster when that one came out…

I sold all my motorcycles when I thought I was going to be part of a workforce reduction… Thankfully that did not happened... but I was left without bikes. Now I only have a box of parts/accessories for whenever I get another Sportster (wishful thinking as I am trying to scale down)…. Funny that from all the bikes I have had, one of the ones I miss the most is that 48… I did a lot of modifications to parts to make them fit that bike…. Anyway, I also had the hots for that dual rotor setup from the XR1200 and later on, the Roadster…

That looks like an old Hercules that I used to race enduros with. Very cool retro. Though the Herc was an air-cooled 2 stroke. (not my bike, just one I grabbed off google. Same model and era)

There are definitely a lot of options today for light weight dual sports. The KLX300 looks like a great bike to carry on the back hitch. It's a good value combination of light weight, dirt bike suspension, and highway speed capability.

Here's a good review.

That one sits pretty high on my list of used bike deals I keep an eye open for.
I have rarely bought new bikes.

Thinking more and more about one now.
I recently picked up a 700GS that covers most of what I do on the Husky with the 19/17 wheels.
The 300 would fill some of the void of the stuff I do with the 21/18's and be a LOT easier in the more difficult stuff.

Do you still have these tires on the bike, or had them on the whole time you had it?

They look like the Anakee 3's I have on my GS.
Those puppies SUCK in the sand.
I swear I have had full on street tires that were better.

I noticed that the bike in the bed of your Overland doesn’t seem to affect the ride height that much. What does the bike weigh and have you modified the suspension at all? I’m considering using my High Altitude to haul my 800lb motorcycle. Would I need to use some air bags?

No wonder... yeah... same tires until I sold it. But even if the tires were not the best ones for sand, bike had to go because I could not handle how top heavy it was. As amazing that bike was for long rides and carrying everything needed for long trips, It was just not fun for me...

Mine is a stock 80th Anniversary Sport, though its probably the same as an Overland.
Curb weight on the 700 is supposed to be around 465 lbs.

Here it is with a Sprint 1050, its curb weight is well over 530 lbs with the bags.
No issues with either, but I was VERY careful about where my weight was when loading.
I walk beside the bike over near the tailgate pivot and try to stay off the end of the tailgate.

800 lbs might matter suspension wise, but I would worry about the tailgate when loading, particularly if you ride it up (and weigh 250 lbs like me).

Boy...this went from a motorcycle hitch mounted carrier thread to a motorcycle thread real fast

My last bike would have never fit on a hitch carrier, let alone in the bed.

My last bike was a 2000 Honda Shadow ACE 1100 Tourer, fully dressed. Would have exceeded the tongue weight limit.
