I have a video of what I've done to the Gladiator to now try running 38's. I also wanted to keep the spare under the truck... so this is what that looks like.

It should be noted the following has already been done: Regeared, RCV front, 35 spline rear and trussed, new inner fenders, reid knuckles, 2.5 inch lift with 1 inch spacer in the front...4.5 coils in the rear (for when loaded it sits level). 0 offset method rims. Apex steering booster valve.

I'll be testing this out for a few weeks to see how it flexs and turns and drives.

How heavy do you get when loaded? And how do the 4.5 coils manage that weight in regards to handling, both on and off road?

I have AEV HD 3.5 springs right now and it's just tall enough that I can't park in the garage, so I've been looking into other spring options to sit a tad lower but still manage the weight. I'm probably 600lbs in the bed on average, and occasionally add 250-300lbs tongue weight. The HD springs handle this great, I just wish AEV made them in a 2.5" spring.

I have EVO HD 4.5 plush rides for rear coils. I LOVE THEM. They don't wobble around on hard trails, they don't rebound and toss it side to side. they do stink bug when empty... the truck is 2 inches higher in the rear. The coils handle the empty weight well too- there is a couple inch space that compresses before the spring is fully loaded. So they are not harsh riding, still firmer than stock- but not like a wagon. I think they might make a 2.5 HD spring?

For weight: I add a RTT,solar panals, lights, and beding (200lbs)/ I put in my diesel heater, hi lift jack, the topper & ladder bar weight, axe, recovery gear, shovels, gally and food, fridge and content, slide out system, jackery power station, canopy for weather, fishing gear, camping gear-cooking gear, outhouse stuff, 7 gallons water, 5.5 gallons fuel, and camping chairs, bedding. I'm guessing that is around another 450lbs? SO... in that range of 600-650 lbs when loaded up for a week.

To fit in the garage I need 85 inches... and that is all I have. The rear roof bar on the topper clears by 1/2 inch- is all. no more growth or it won't be able to garage! For me- the side of the garage the jeep goes in- had a trim piece that I removed- or it would not fit. and now it fits without touching. I painted it and you can't tell unless you are looking for it that half the garage has that extra clearance.

1st of all, great video and I love your rig. I am currently running 37x13.50x17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers and I have a 37x12.50x17 Patagonia spare in the bed of the truck. I want to move it underneath the truck. Did you have to do any trimming of the heat shield to mount your old 37-inch spare under the bed? I plan on installing the Clayton track bar as well.

No... it fit tight, you just had to actively guide it to the position but it fit, and with the clayton bar it will be good!

I’ll second this!! First mod for me was Clayton track bar and a 37” Patagonia MT02. (Came with a stock sized spare for some reason) It needs guidance but it fits well.

I’ve been considering the xt’s and also in a 38 but I can’t find them anywhere. Was thinking about stepping up to a 40 since they’re widely available. How do you like them so far? Did they balance well?

edit: guess if I watched the video then I could’ve had an answer lol.

So far... Only dirt, highway, and gravel driving. We have no ice or snow and I've not had a wheeling trip yet. Tires balanced well, are very quiet, and no vibrations or anything from them. Only about 400 miles on them so far.... But they seem nice enough. Going to take them in the Rubicon trail this summer.... I'll have a good durability test then!

I think Autoplicity had this size in stock.... I bought the last ones from Northridge. Very few 38's left...

I too am running the X/T 38" and using a still good used 37" M/T as a spare underneath, as noted it does fit, but tight.
I have had them for over a year and they did really well in the 3 to 8 inches of snow we got last year, much better than the M/T's I had on the previous years.
They did great in Moab, really good in Colorado, loose rock and are doing great on the highway and wearing well.
Will be getting another set when needed and maybe even going with 40's

I’m thinking about the 40’s. I can get them for a great price locally
