But I'd bet is still requires Guardian to function...........

You have seen the Buick commercials, I'm sure, where they show a couple and the guy is using his phone to lock his Buick as they hang in the air - is that a paid subscription as well or does GM do that for free? I don't recall seeing a disclaimer saying "with paid subscription" etc.
my old Silverado and even my JK, it was free. I didn’t use it often, but there were a couple instances, especially when I locked my keys in the car.

it was very disappointing to have to subscribe to Sirius if I wanted the feature.

I'm not talking remote start or remote unlock from a FOB -I'm talking phone app.
You are saying Jeep did it for free from a phone app - and no SiriusXM guardian account? You were past the 12 free months and it STILL worked via phone app for free?

You had an app on your phone that allowed you, from anywhere, to unlock your Chevy or Jeep.
NO subscription required.

BTW - with these, with passive entry, you can't possibly "lock the keys in the truck".
Before it will initiate the lock sequence, it seeks a FOB in the vehicle. If it's there, it won't lock.
My Silverado beeped at me - two times, and made me press the lock button on the door a second time, before it would lock if I had the key in my hand when I pressed the lock button on the door.

I don't see remote start on my Jeep mobile app on Android.
I don't see remote start mentioned on the window sticker other than in association with the key fob.
My Uconnect Subscription has expired. Never saw much use for it.

Correction - It is mentioned under Cold Weather Group.

Yup -
Part of cold weather package
That's where it is.

I've used it quite a bit, actually, and am getting my wife into the advantages of it with her Jeep when she's out with her friends on cold winter days, snow, freezing rain, whatever, she can be in a store or in a friend's house and use her phone to start her Jeep.
She's always asking "did we lock xxxxx" and I pull out my phone and say - it is now if it wasn't.
I can also see if I closed my garage door, when it closed or opened, and if I forget, I can close it from anyplace.

I understand passive entry and yes, I am talking about using the the Jeep/Mopar app on a 16 JKU. And Chevrolet had the feature for free as well. Both were equipped with Sirius & o star or whatever the brand version is, but no active subscription. Same with my wife’s Acura. Much more normal for the app to be free and work, I would think, or maybe I just got lucky ??‍♂

I think you got really lucky! My '18 JL came with the trial and the day it expired I lost it all. My JT trial ends on the 9th. I'll tell y'all if it still works afterwards! I'm not paying $40 to unlock my car twice a year with an app... I have a soft top, I'll just go through the window if I lock my keys in the jeep!

My wife's Ford has their app/service for free for life... service reminders, location services, remote start, lock/unlock. I don't understand why Jeep can't do this, too...

They probably don't have enough volume to get the bargaining power to keep the cost down. It's harder to give away for free when you outsource it to AT&T/SiriusXM than if you do it in-house.

Exactly, and from what I've seen so far, at least 3 entities have been involved in the writing of the UCONNECT software that runs on the radios! Samsung (Harman) and a couple of others if I recall. Ford probably either has a single source for all - or does it themselves.
If you have to outsource

When mine expired they offered me the service for $25 a month! Freaking crazy. I never used it in a year.

until the key battery gets low/dies and then you can lock yours key in it.

Experience you say: since 2007 when Lexus went passive entry. Ive seen it more than a few times.

Im sure 99% of the time you wont have an issue, but you know like I know, nothing is cut and dry with vehicles anymore. Just wanted to give a small PSA to prevent an issue.
