The factory cloth upholstery
in my 1998 Wrangler Sahara
is 25 years old
and still in good condition.

In spite of dogs riding in it
for the nine years that I have had it
there are no rips or tears from toenails.
The dog hair does not cling to the cloth
and is easy to swipe away
along with sand or paw prints.
The only damage
is a seam beginning to separate
where my fat butt slides in.

The black cloth upholstery
and black carpet in my 2021 JTR
is a dog hair and dirt magnet.
The hairs weave themselves
into the "chenille" covered seats.

Jeeps are supposed to be
for the outdoor life, offroad,
where there is dirt.
Not for posing at Starbucks.
What were they thinking?

Somehow, this does not seem like progress.

I bought inexpensive seat covers
that can be easily removed for cleaning
and to ward against toenails.

At least that's how I read it. Maybe it isn't.

On the carpet front.........I hated cleaning and vacuuming after the beach in my JLUR. So when I ordered my JTM, I also ordered the Armorlite floor system. For the seat I went with some Diver Down covers and life is easy peezy now after the beach or wheeling.

BUT yes, you're correct, the materials are not what they used to be

Cloth is soft
You don’t stick when it’s hot
But cloth holds dirt
Easy to clean it’s not

I got the leather
really it’s just vinyl.
It’s more expensive
But the benefits are binal

First, it looks good
Then it’s easy to clean
Vacuuming sand from cloth
Makes Wolfy quiet mean

Carpet in the Jeep
Is a fucking nightmare
It’s gets full of sand
And woven in dog hair

In my Jeep
Floors are plastic too
It’s a petroleum landscape
Through and through

A vacuum and garden hose
Are my tools of the trade
10 minutes later
The Jeep looks newly made

No pulling carpets
Or upholstery brushes
No watching sand dance
On whatever the vacuum touches

No fibers to hold dirt
Oh the sweet relief
Get yourself covers of leather
And save yourself some grief

Who knew
Gladiator owners could be poetic.
All I wanted
was a seat synthetic.

Not closed couplets in iambic pentameter
but a refreshing change Wolf Island Diver.

My narrow column spacing
in the extreme might be free verse.
But no one thinks a thing
about peering all day
at text messages on a cell phone
only 20 characters wide.

Back in the day
the Apple II computer
came with 48k and a 40 character screen.
Add a 16k "language card"
and one could have an 80 character screen.
That is when I determined
I only had a 40 character brain.

"Optimal line length or column width for body text is 40–70 characters. When people read, their eyes jump across a line of text, pausing momentarily to take in groups of three or four words. Studies have shown that readers can make only three or four of these jumps (or saccades) per line before reading becomes tiring."
Rule Number 1 for Readability https://winterpm.com/

Back on topic, one would think
that Jeep would offer a base model
that came standard
with all weather thermoplastic flooring
and vinyl seat covers.
Then have a Starbucks option
for chenille upholstery
and limo carpet.

I hate the dog hair in carpet too. We have two of them and they go lots of places with us.

I have found that using a air hose takes some of the top layer of hair off the carpet, just open both doors first. Then I use a damp micro fiber towel and use a wiping motion, this pulls more hair to the top of the carpet. Both of these remove most of the surface and embedded hair. Then I switch to a round brush attachment for my shop vac. And then, once more go over everything with a air hose, blowing every thing outside. Yes it takes time but it's what we are stuck with.

I hope this helps you. It's not perfect but without tweezers......
