Well, certainly because the forum is primarily enthusiasts and not a great cross section of the general buying public. If you went by this forum, it's because everyone is waiting for it to come from the factory. So many people love to say they'd get one, but won't actually drop the cash for one.
It does bear mentioning that a $5-10K upgrade financed new for a 5.7 over the Pentastar with a factory warranty and driving it off the lot is a more palatable than sending it to AMW for a minimum of $32K plus time out of service to do a swap.
Trust me bro, I'll buy it bro. I swear bro.I see that over and over and over out there in the general automotive world. So people looking to produce, or reproduce parts, for customs and classics don't ask "if I make this, how many of you will buy it", they say "if I get xx orders, I will make it - you must make a deposit". And guess what - those who jumped up and down over and over do it do it do it! I want one I really want one - hid under rocks when they say "deposit required".
They want it really badly - in print.
To your point - I suspect people believe if it comes from the factory, it will be a $1,000 option. Fat chance.
As you've often illustrated, people don't understand the economics of scale, let alone market economics...
3D printing tech is getting better; small batch parts might become more economic as time marches forward. I'm considering getting a Bambu A1 because of it.
