This is a photo of my dad and I after he attended my graduation from Combat Engineer / Pioneer (now Sapper) School, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri in the summer of 1968. I had also just received orders to Oakland Army Base, CA for transit to Viet Nam. More than 53 years later, I still, in my dreams see the men I served with. I miss my dad, and those I served with as this was the defining experience of my life. My brother Tom, is fighting cancer after 32 years in the Air Force retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Our country is at a cross-roads, and we need to... as caretakers of our liberties... be ever watchful of those who know not nor care what freedom stands for. God Bless America

Well said, my dad and I have had this conversation many times. It's hard at times to fight for people that don't understand or care what the meaning of freedom is. Thank you for all your FAMILY has done!

Gonna hit up IHOP for lunch, then pick up my young'un from school and take him to Longhorn Steakhouse for some cheese fries. Then we'll head over to Olive Garden and he can color while I eat. Wifey want to go to Bob Evans so we will meet her there afterwards.

It's nice to remember and reflect as a family.

Many Thanks to the businesses who feed us all once a year.

On the way home the young'un gets a Krispy Kreme donut.

I wish we could do that here in Hampton Roads but all the restaurants will be FULL.

Me: 6 years Navy, Quartermaster 2nd Class, 6 years Army...Watercraft Operator, 88K20.

Nephew is a US Marine Gunnery Sergeant (three up, two down) making a career of it. Passed OCS so when he finishes college, he'll be commissioned as a 2nd Lt.

My Father never served...too young for WWII (only 6 when it started) and had a war critical job for Vietnam (he was draftable age but...), he was a Delaware River Pilot.

My Grandfather also did not 'serve' actively as he was also a Delaware River Pilot and therefore had a war critical job. BUT, my Grandfather was commissioned as Lt. Commander in the Coast Guard as commandant of the port of Philadelphia. I actually JUST found his picture yesterday of him in uniform. Needs restoring though. Gonna happen!!!

So, thanks to all who have served and are serving now.

We are very fortunate to live in the smaller Phoenix community we do. They always do a great Veterans Day parade and event every year. How many small communities actually get a F16 squad fly by.

Note the medallion on the ground lit up. Every year November 11 at 11:11am the sun is in perfect alignment with the monuments and illuminates the seal on the ground. Very cool indeed.

The community veterans park smack in middle of town is one of the best.

Great morning spent with a lot of great veterans. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

My Grandpa served in Europe in the signal Corp during WW2. Lost him this year after living over 100 years.

Hey, we’re neighbors. I helped get that built and I have a brick there. I used to help with the parade too. Been here since 2003.
Nice! Probably have seen each other driving around Anthem. We are always out and about ...... We’ve been here 10 Years and attend this event every year.

It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
