Hi All,
I have a stock 2021 overland, ~18k miles, bought new. I purchased 285/70 load C toyo open country at 3s and put them on some take off wrangler 17 inch wheels. There is a slight shake in the cabin at 65 mph. I’m planning on taking it back to the tire shop… any advice on what I should tell them? It didn’t happen before I installed these tires/wheels.
Thanks :)

If it only happens around or above a certain speed, one of your tires is probably out of balance. Do you feel the shake in your steering wheel or only in the seat? That could be an indicator of whether it’s in the front or the back.

I’d check tire pressure, and wheel balance. I’d also check to make sure all the lugs are seated and tight.

This brings me scary flashbacks. Back in college I changed my girlfriend’s tire after we went out one night. It was late and for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to follow her home. Halfway there, something just didn’t feel right so I flagged her down and double checked the wheel. Sure enough, I was able to tighten back up a bit more after the wheel had rotated on the ground. ?

Thanks. I moved the the tires and wheels from front to back and back to front with no (or little) difference. Tightened the lug nuts myself with a torque wrench.

Pressures are anywhere from 33-39 depending on temperature and my experimentation… but I wouldn’t think that vibrations would be affected by pressure, within reasonable pressures.

It’s weird… I feel it in the steering wheel and the entire cabin. It’s subtle. I don’t do hard wheeling and I have no reason to expect any damage to drivetrain/driveline parts.

They rebalanced and I don’t feel the shake! Thank you!

I have had the same vibrations on the front end. Took the Gladiator in to have the tires rebalanced, now it is isolated to the right front tire. Returned to the dealership with the complaint and was told that it could be the steering column. Now I have to wait until December to have them check the front end after the top end of the motor is to be replaced…I was told these are COVID vehicles and that many of them have issues.

Steering column? LOL - how can that cause a vibration.
as to the last comments - that's a joke as well. Whoever told you that is one of those conspiracy people.

You have a bad tire, or a bad wheel, or a tire that needs to be properly balanced by a good shop, even road force balancing.

Someone is pulling your leg - both of them from that message.

(watching as this was a dead thread for over a year, and the rest makes me wonder)

@HooDoo2013 most ride disturbances are a result of improper tire/wheel balance. It wouldn't hurt to have the front end checked if it's free, but I would get a second opinion on the balance.
