Hi Folks,

I recently put on a set of Toyo Open Country ATIII's 35x11.50r17's on my JT Rubicon. Driving around town I've had no problems. Went to work, noticed a slight shimmy on my way to work but I brushed it off. Went on a longer highway drive and I noticed around 55-60 that my steering wheel and front left tires has a bit of a shimmy in it.

I'm not sure if the road caused the problem at that speed or what. Had tires balanced again and still not fixed, though I don't know if they did a road force balance. I'm sure the road wasn't good where I was driving, but I shouldn't feel that type of feedback regardless of the road. It felt almost like a death wobble, but not so bad that I felt like I had to not drive.

Wondering if anyone has advice for next steps. I was going to start, first, with making sure I got a road force balance. But not sure what the steps after that would be.

Thanks.

The obvious first step in my opinion is to check all of your lugnuts. I've nearly driven off from multiple tire shops before with not even finger tight lugnuts.

When I jumped from 33s to 35s (Ridge Grapplers) on my JTR, I had no issues at all with shake. I imagine the tire shop should have caught any defects while mounting/balancing/rebalancing, but I'd take a thorough look at the tires themselves as well. Unless the shop royally screwed up and damaged or inadvertently loosened some suspension components, I personally can't think of any reason why a Rubicon would develop a significant amount of shake with that slight of a tire size step up.

I'm sure more knowledgeable folks than I will chime in before long.

Put the fronts on the back, see what happens. Could be a bad built tire.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Really helped and got me to the root cause quicker. I went and swapped the spare on the tire that I thought the problem was on and ran it on the highway and everything was beautiful. So, I took the tire back into the shop and they checked the rim and then the tire and ran road force balance to get it into the tolerances needed for balancing.
