So, i recently have had the rear axle sensor in a constant state of trying to lock the axle, or at least thinking it is. The off-road pages display shows the axle is locked in 2wd. I am still covered under the powertrain side of my warranty but the dealership has told me they need it for 3 days for diagnostics. Does this sound normal and if it is would they not offer a loaner or a rental? I am afraid i may have burned a bridge with my shock issues, at least they have 3 of the 4 shocks. That's at least something more than i have had for the last 10 months.

Anyways, my blood boils when i call this place but it's convenient for me. It's literally across the street from my house but i cannot be without a vehicle for 3 days. Is it sad i just want my warranty to expire so i can fix things myself or should i just fix it myself anyways. I just think that 3 days is ridiculous for diagnostics. especially if i make an appointment, unless it comes back to me fixed but i have never gotten same service appointment resolution EVER!! I always have to bring it back sometimes several times before issues are resolved.

Thoughts?

It is going to sit on their lot for 3 days and whenever they get to it, they get to it. In years past, I would say that is not normal but in this day and age, it seems more prevalent. Not much you can do about it other than try to find another dealership that may try to give you firmer dates and time they can get to it.

As to a loaner or rental, you have to see what they offer if anything. It is not a an entitlement that Jeep or the dealerships provide a loaner or rental assistance. That has always been a stain on CDJR dealerships in general that they do not as a matter of overall practice provide loaners or rental assistance.

Thanks they have given them to me in the past for the same vehicle, different issues. Believe it or not it was one of the times they had me scheduled to replace the shocks hahaha that never got replaced!

My solution for the headache of trying to get the dealership to fix the bad locker sensor issue on mine in a timely manner has been to buy and install a Z Locker OEM bypass. Hopefully someday the dealership will get the correct part in and installed, but in the meantime this stops the light from flashing at me and allows the locker to function.

It's all comes down to how much do you value your times. I've had done a few fixes myself that are considered as warranty items. I just hates dealing with the dealers, especially CDJR. For me, It was quicker and/or cheaper not having to goes there twice, and also has to take an Uber back home.

Off topic: Last week, brought my 2023 Silverado to the dealer for 1st and supposed 1 free oil change. They said it's gonna be 3-4 hr wait. I laughed, picked up a filter from their part counter and oil from Wally.

not afraid of the work. I have all the tools required and space to do it off the street. This dealership ism one of the worst in my opinion.

Mine does still lock and works otherwise as normal. Just the idiot light is annoying AF. Sometimes it even decides to stop. Which my luck would happen while the dealership has it. HAHA

3 day wait is not abnormal.

many folks on the forum have had waits in the weeks or months.

if you still have Jeep wave there is a rental agreement (payback) you could look into.

Mine was just out of service for 7 weeks.

The fine print details for the Jeep Wave rental reimbursement is only for same day service. So only one day and not multiple.

Reach out to Jeep Cares. I’m nearly positive they will cover a big portion of the rental.

I was without rental and my Jeep for 4 weeks until I really started pressing hard on Jeep Cares and the dealer.

3 days isn’t so bad fyi.

I ended up having to borrow cars, Uber, work remote, and a ton of other BS… 3 days is still 3 days….. but I’m betting you can find a way.

shit, if i refused to drive it with a bad shock I'd still be without the Jeep, 10 months. At least they have 3 of the 4 needed shocks they are replaceing.

Normally I would have an extra vehicle but my son took it to college. Oh well. At least we can bitch here. Jeep Customer care is only slightly better than working with the dealer. at least they can pressure them with a little more authority.

On a side note Customer care called me and asked for my mother in law, and butchered her name so i told them they had teh wrong number not realizing it was customer care. Since then they stopped responding to me. FUN TIMES !! LMFAO

The plot thickens. i reached out to another dealership, who will only communicate via text messages (lame.) Their time frame is 5 days. FFS, diagnostic work is drop off only and the vehicle needs to wait in line. To be in line it needs to be on property ready when it's its turn in line.

lets just imagine there is 1 guy running Daig, say 2 hours per vehicle, 4 vehicles a day and they plan on 5 day turn around they could potentially have 20+ vehicle on property at any one time waiting diagnostics. Just sounds like very poor time management in my opinion. and this is if it's just one guy doing diagnostics all day. Realistically it's probably a master tech doing 1 a day if he has time in between warranty and labor work. Is it legal to do teh work myself and bill CDJR for the warranty work i performed myself?

This has turned into a brainstorm of feasible resolutions to an increasingly frustrating situation.

Are all the diff cover bolts torque to yield or is it on inside that holds teh sensor in place?
I remember seeing a post about this exact locker sensor issue and or bypass.

Read up on the posts of how to fix the sensor issue. You may be able to repair the one you have, and it may just be easier to replace it. Do the modification suggested to try and prevent it from failing again. The gasket on the differential cover is reusable. Do a fluid and sensor change and hopefully be done with it for a long time.

I'm just going by what I've read here. I don't have the locker and sensor issue to deal with on my Overland.

Already read the threads. Looks like I have to take the bearing caps bolts out.

There is a new sensor available. I've posted the info about it somewhere here.

I can't recall the cost of the sensor, but I'd almost lean toward getting a new one, sealing it up nicely, and doing the differential service all at the same time.
