It isn't potted. It fills up with gear oil and once sufficient metal content is in the oil, it shorts.

Problem with grabbing a 'spare' is it may not work. There are 5 different sensors and you never know which one will work. When Jeep fixes under warranty they literally have a kit of 5 and try each one until they find a match. The 'spare kit' costs $350. Prior to this kit becoming available Jeep would replace the entire axle assembly when the locker sensor failed.
wtf! engineers build that on friday afternoon for sure. I'll just delete it, lol.

So I cracked open my diffs. Assuming I was about to get that rank smell and some really dark fluid. As I have heard from others. SMH the oil was barely darker than the oil I put in. Wtf?! It didn’t even smell. It felt like it was also under filled factory but it looked great. Just a little grayish film that wiped/ sprayed off easy. (I used chlorinated brake cleaner and then made sure it dried with a hair dryer, my neighbors think I’m bat shit, lol.)
Anyway my T-case oil was also immaculate. I immediately just put the plug back in and topped it off. Hopefully my Trans fluid looks just as good when I crack her open at 30k. Brake fluid also past test strip. About 15ppm. I’ll still flush it tho sometime this week when I got a friend to sit behind the wheel. I’m super impressed with this truck. I keep thinking it’s gonna need a lot of work to keep it tip top. But so far she’s only needed oil changes and tire rotation. I’ve just been doin a lot of “preemptive maintenance “ at this point. ?
Why? Was it causing you issues? I’ve never seen people so eager to do maintenance that isn’t called for.

cus i was told it was needed. That the oil in there was the break in oil and i have done a fair bit of towing and water crossings. I was fooled into believing it was toast. There was a guy in another thread whose fluid was smoked at 30k

Please don’t let 1 persons experience dictate what you do. I’ve had 2 gladiators and not at any point do I not follow manufacturer suggested maintenance intervals. People still think it’s the 70s and their car just isn’t that sensitive. Quite frankly I would rather it break during my warranty if it’s going to do so.

Do what you think is right. aceinfinity has some weird hangup of people doing early or preventative maintenance.

it was multiple. And all my previous experience has been with old high mileage vehicle that did need the work. Hell the dealer told me i needed a brake flush. I got test strips and the fluid is fine. lesson learned.

You will find people that own jeeps have this weird need to feel like they are constantly working on the rig. They do this even when nothing is wrong. It’s a mental illness really haha. Ask any dealer master tech. Most of their work comes from people tinkering with things that don’t need it.

I know of a sister disease to this one. It effects Corvette owners. They must compulsively was and wax their car, forsake driving in the rain or dust. the cleaning encompasses all

im used to broken shit. Its weird when everything works. oil is cheap tho, and it can't hurt it if done right.
