I thought I'd buzz this project out in a couple of years. I was wrong. First set of steps arrived damaged. So I had to wait for the new set to come in. The instructions were partially out of order. They also left out some details on a few steps, which I found out after a call to them. I also wish they made the driver side harness about foot longer to have a cleaner run in the engine bay. For reference, I installed a set of these on my former F150 with no issues.

In the end, I'm happy with the results, my wife and kids even more so.

AMP Research makes great products and their Power Steps are the best.

As you likely know, they are not rock sliders as they're not designed for that use.

Fully aware. The off roading I'll do certainly won't involve dropping the truck onto it's rockers. Built a Grand Cherokee 5.9 back in the day then a Zuki Samurai when I got more serious with wheeling. They had both had the heavy duty rocksliders.

Hi, was member of forum for a while but sold jeep 4yrs ago and just came back with a Rubicon gladiator. I had a question. I am installing these steps and am having a hard time with the driver side working. Passenger side works fine. I was worried about white plug connector thinking I'm on wrong wires but I seem to be good there. Steps dont open with driver side doors. Did you have this issue? Going to call amp tomorrow. Been playing with it all weekend. The steps did retract but now can't get working. Any help I'd gladly accept. Thanks

I didn't have that issue. I wonder if the motors are binding. I'd pull the step off the linkages. Pull the motors off the linkages but leave them plugged. Try opening and closing the doors. See if the motors cycle.

I take this back. Has the drivers side ever cycled? I'd not, it definitely sounds like a door wiring issue. Maybe your posi-tap is holding the wire but not making the connection.

Yes it did cycle. Issue is when opening doors. I've taken the posi-taps on and off checking for good contact. I noticed that the trigger light comes on when driver front opens but not rear. It seems like I'm on the wrong wires but think I am. Other black and blue plugs work fine. Just issue with white. Was thinking controller may be the issue. Must be the door ajar wires. Violet gray is easy. Violet I seen 2 but tried both and nothing. I've had others look at wires. Seem to match with directions.

If the wiring is good. Maybe it is a faulty controller?

It may be. I will look again at it tomorrow. Also I will call Amp. Maybe there's something I'm doing wrong. Thanks for your help. Will keep this thread updated when I finally fix the issue. Not many threads on the gladiator amp xl steps

Agreed. Not much at all. Good luck. I hope it's quick and simple!

I really like AMP power boards but they just don't hold up to the salt and snow on the roads where I live, even with washing them and keeping them clean. Also, I hate that the lights are not optional, those tend to corrode pretty fast as well, and I'd rather pay less and not have them.

Interesting. I ran them for 4.5 years on my f150. I plowed snow with that truck and live up in the Northeast. I never had a corrosion or light issue. only thing I had to do last fall was remove the motor and clean out the gear housing. dirt had crept in there and was binding up the motor. Quick clean and it was working as good as new.

I dropped the gladiator off at the jeep shop in chester springs, pa. They fixed it . Seems I had it wired wrong. I thought it was on violet/grey but looks like it's now on violet/white. I must be color blind. So hard to tell with the wires being so small. All working good now. If anyone is in S.E. Pa check them out.
