Agree all above. One thing to add is the times before internet. Tell you what, can't wait to ditch this phone and disconnect completely. Except I like youtube. Youtube is good.

Now back to the subject of the thread. I was on many forums years back firearms and 6 or more Jeep and off road ones, some turned in to train wrecks to include the one of a Jeep club I was in and helped starting up. Now a forum "that can be eat your own" I'm on, that has some "know it all's" and had some that flat out said I didn't know anything, then I was dead wrong on a subject (s) Even though I had direct information. Moderators and I had more than a few conversation over some of the things. I was close to being banned there. but some know it all's that didn't know jack about it or my references and would not believe. (RIP Will and A.C.) They was the Mod's there. Any of you guys that are on it will know who they was and what forum it is.
I have dropped off most due to the point less B.S. Some just due to being narrow minded people that will not believe anything they don't want to see.
Now here on this forum "We" have quite a cross reference of experience and knowledge a lot is not just on JT or Jeeps. So hopefully we can keep it together.

I was banned for life from - get this - the original AMC Eagle forum. The guy who got it going had some help and that help leveraged himself into power. Poor Doug was sort of pushed to the side.
I was banned for "political posts" when I simply said "fuel containing ethanol in Iowa gets a big tax break, so it's often 15 cents cheaper per gallon".
The guy came in and said I was making political statements.
I responded it wasn't political, it was a statement of fact, ethanol got a tax break in Iowa and was a lot cheaper. I didn't even suggest whether I agreed or disagreed with the break or what administration put the law into effect.
Then he said I was arguing with a moderator - and next thing I know when I go to load the forum a really nasty nasty personal message popped up on the screen.
Everyone I knew got a laugh out of it - and said the guy was banning people left and right if he didn't agree with them or could find some other excuse.
That forum eventually collapsed and Doug started another one. It's pretty successful.
Then a friend called me into an Eagle preservation and restoration page he created as we were sick of seeing those cars hacked and cut up for 40" tires, straight axles and treated like monster trucks (especially since some models are extremely hard to find now)
Irony in the end - I ended up with all of Doug's Eagle stuff - Doug got so his health was bad and he's up in years and can't keep up actually doing the work or handling things as he used to so one day he contacts me and says he's giving me his car and all of the stuff he's collected over the years connected to Eagles (boxes of bolts, trim clips you can't buy any more, NOS SX4 decals, that sort of stuff). Too bad his car is toast from frame rot.

Last year when Will passed was my total decision point on my life and getting a JT. The weekend he passed unexpected I had planned on giving him a call. Got busy with work and everything. Then I found out he past, I really knuckled down on paying off everything, to buy mine. "But if the dealerships I went to would have listened to me I would have bought it then in July 2019."
Now that I did wait, I got almost exactly what I wanted... plus got great interest rate for 4-5 months, then paid it off about 4 months later. :giggle: I didn't do a few things I had planned to do but I think it has worked out better for me doing what I did... Maybe not physical health wise but mental health wise. Yes I worked to much overtime.....
I despise having debts or to have debt with anyone. Now that I'm thinking about it I need to "pay off" my cellphone:facepalm:

Last year I had thoughts of leaving the employment that I'm in and / or location, and just selling off most of my stuff. Job satisfaction and not able to do any of the things I enjoy then to have over 40% plus of my pay go for taxes. It is strange how some thing or event can change your life. The passing of many friends and people I know.

My wife hates debt. We met a few months after my divorce was final - and I was farming. Barbara was used to a pay check every couple of weeks. She asked when I got paid - uh, well, that varies - maybe when I sell crops, sometimes I contract ahead, sometimes I sell some in the fall, sometimes spring, I may hold it for a few months. She freaked at the maxed credit card and the $100,000 bank loans. So - I gave her full control over the accounts.
We have always shot for the maximum loan length of time - and paid off early. That paid off when I was laid off with 80 others when Principal cut that many IT jobs. We cut back to normal payments on things until I got a job again (I worked as a self-employed contractor to help).

I have my JT because I sold my prized 70 Javelin and because of my father (and my mother being a genius - literally) - and my wife insisting on being careful.
So I can say really that Mom and Dad bought my truck for me.
After Dad was killed in that accident by a sleeping driver - we visited the bank where he did his business. They had been taking care of things for him after Mom died - two of the guys there more than once said that our mother was a financial genius.

My son was visiting us and staying in this area until he moved his family to Florida and I had planned on taking my son and visiting Dad the upcoming Saturday - I'd been promising Dad a visit for a couple of months. That Wednesday - I got the frantic call and emails from my youngest brother.
NEVER EVER put it off - tomorrow never comes, no matter how many times you say "I'll call tomorrow" or "I'll visit them tomorrow".

We hold it together mainly for the hell of it and because ole Jay is a genius forum owner. I'm not giving it up. No way. My goal is to be ignored by all users one at a time rather than be banned anyway. I will say all of life has a cycle. Right now, we rode the growing wave of a cool forum on high tide to glory - you guessed it - a dang "that took half my life to see truck". And, better than that, it's a jeep truck. Well worth it imo.

I know that one too well, my last conversation with my Father was one that I regret in the way it sounded, but not the way it was meant to be. It was that in no way H### I was going to move back to Illinois, maybe Indiana. Not that I didn't want to be around him, but that he could move to where I lived at in Ga. then.
I've got a lot of memories of Illinois, but not worth living there. I cannot have my "NFA toys" there.
Some of the other things going on during that time facilitated my getting out of Active Duty that I won't go in to here. It would be a thread drift off on another subject not related but still relevant to other things. But would explain some other reasons why I dropped off of many forums, turned off my internet, changed cellphones and number.

Facebook is the beginning of the end ... It is a horrible place ... People can point out good things about it but in general, it is a cesspool ...

I avoid it like the plague ...
Yep. Glad I deleted mine 5 years ago!
