Replaced spark plugs and installed high performance coil packs. It was a miserable job, and there’s more blood in my engine bay, but it’s done. No codes. It runs great. I can definitely feel a noticeable power increase. There was a lot of swearing. And getting the plugs out is rough. I had a magnetic plug socket on hand with a permanent hinged extension, but the magnet ring sticks in the tubes. So I went back to the old craftsman, and duct taped it to a 3/8 swivel, then duct taped the swivel to an outlet extension. It was mostly a nightmare.

WOW. Looks like a lot of work. More than I could probably tackle. Good job on finishing everything up. If you're not bleeding you're not trying hard enough. :)

Having done it once, I could do it faster next time, but the coil packs are in such terrible spots. So many things need to be unhooked and removed to even get the intake manifold off. It’s ridiculous that it needs to be removed to get to coil packs. But I guess they are smashing these engines in there. Not much free space to make things easy.

Yea they're getting harder and harder to work on for sure.

Knowing what it takes to do it, I’d never have a dealer do this project. If I didn’t care about doing a good job, so many things would get broken. Every connector required a pick and flat head, and more patience than I had on hand. :) A dealer could easily mess things up if they were careless.

I agree with that. Can't trust the work they do. May come home in worse condition.

That would be a good time to do the Aluminum oil cooler as well, if you haven't already.

Been working on final touches of installing an Spod BantamX with lights. Baja Designs LP-6's on top, and the OnX6 amber fog light underneath. I fabbed an aluminum bracket that captures both sets using 1 through-bolt, which I will change out with a security bolt. The bull bar and bumper are a Rock Hard 4x4 all aluminum plate bumper (it only weighs 37 lbs!). The HD control panel I mounted overhead on an overhead ACR Molle Panel in the cab.

Those are the toughest ones. When I approach those thinking I can rip it out real quick and then have to be overly methodical I get frustrated until I realize to slow down and pick through it patiently and then it goes smoothly. Slow but smoothly.

No question. One broken wire and it’s all over.

That’s when the wife stays away from the garage for a while.
My wife came out once. I apologized that it was taking so long, then I swore up a storm about how stupid it was that I had to remove that much crap to replace plugs. She didn’t realize I was replacing coils, nor would she have cared.

So, did you have to get any new replacement gaskets for the intake plenum, or are the originals reusable without any issues?

Every instruction I looked at said just be careful with them. They all looked pristine, and didn’t even lift out.
