Appreciate you folks
Many have different opinions on this. It’s usually the ground clearance variable that comes up. It certainly does hang down probably 1.5” lower, give or take. For me with the kind of trails I like to do, I think it’s hitch skid or bobbed bed. And I want a full sized bed.

What about something like the Artec that is tighter than the bottom of the factory bumper but allows for an integrated hitch? Seems like a nicer compromise between a clearance reducing skid plate or cutting your bed off.

My past experience on factory hitches is a first gen SVT Raptor and multiple TJs and never destroyed either, absolutely abusing them, but I also upgraded or eliminated them both later for clearance. so I really don't know what could have or could not have been.

I unbelievably still tow with mine for camping. And occasionally use the cargo trailer, but it’s only 2,000lbs empty, so I just load it appropriately knowing what the tow rig is. Mine was originally bought to handle our offroad camping trailer better than our Cherokee Trailhawk. Then “things” happened. It still tows fine, but isn’t winning any races going up mountain passes.

Finally after owning it for a year and a half I took the doors and roof off.
YES!!! I’ve had mine since July of 21 and the hard top has never been off. Front doors and sunrider open is as far as I’ve gotten it. I need to though.

My project today is to get the gantry crane out of the living room. It’ll be handy in the garage, and I’m totally using for this first.

I know you sit higher, but I was dragging my hitch skid all over Moab lol. Also shoveling sand. Screenshot from a video "too large to post"

Looks like Poison Spider. Love that trail. I'll take a bashed hitch skid plate any day over anything else getting mashed.

Trivia time. A Ford Excursion SUV has a 137.1 wheelbase. A Jeep Gladiator, 137.3.

Can you believe we actually had a ferry where you could take your vehicle to the other islands? Many off-roaders were excited being we could bring our rigs to areas other than our own island. But people complained about how the Ferry would ruin our ecosystems. Some even went as far to protest the idea of bringing dirt and evasive insects to their island, the dumb thing is, all these islands make up one freakin State and we all have the same dirt and insects! In the end, they trashed the idea and our tax money went straight into the ocean - wasted!

I can see both sides. I have no doubt there are isolated ecosystems on different islands.

It’s a whole weekend of ball for the sons team so perfect for cruising around and no rain in the forecast.
We also had a 22 JLU that had the roof off most of the summer. And just whip it in the garage overnight or during rain.
