That is a nut with a keeper. There is a bolt on the other side holding something down.

Once the bolt is started the keeper will keep the nut from turning while tightening. Also gives you a handle to hold while you start the bolt into the nut.

They are all over the JT.
These on the front are the only ones I've seen. I was wondering if it was an indicator if you had bottomed out to the frame...

Ok. So to understand...the nut is basically "welded" to that poly? Is that the idea?

I can level with the thread title more than im proud to admit.
TBH - I thought it was worth the ask. I saw this after I hit hard a large dip in the road and I was like is this some indicator that I bottomed out to the frame? I didnt see the same on the rear wheels so I was questioning my logic for what they were for since it look like the bolt access was really easy with the hole size...

What it is is a marriage saver.
Oh I doubt that. Didnt have "Unlimited Jeep Mods" anywhere on the item...
Also didn't have "Unlimited BJs" either...so...def not the marriage saver...
You know BJs being the model that came out before the CJs right? ;-) ;-)

So I called it a retainer but I’m getting the feeling most agree it’s a flag nut so I change my previous statement to:

I think that's a nut flag.
