Hey everyone,

I'm planning on getting the Clayton 2.5" overland plus lift kit and was wondering if running the HD rear coils on an empty bed would be a bad idea? has anyone ever done this before?

I was wondering about this because in a year or two ill be getting a pop up camper shell(300-400 pounds), but in the mean time will the HD coils suck with no additional rear weight? I don't really care if the truck has a rake(I prefer at least some rake), unless its going to be more rake than stock.
I’m planning on installing my Clayton 2.5 HD rear springs soon. I also have an empty bed other than a truck bed rubber mat. I’ll let you know how much rake it gives me. I have a 1.5ā€ teraflex kit upfront along with the Clayton diesel hd springs which gives it about .5ā€ lift if anything.

I have the same setup with an oru designs camper. Those springs are stiff as hell when there is nothing in the back. It's the price you pay if you want to have a payload in the back.

That’s what I was afraid of happening. I mainly wanted them for when I tow. So I’ll see if I can bear the ā€œstiffnessā€.

Where are you located CA? You can have my Clayton 2.5" non HD rear coils if you come by and pick it up.
How much do you want for these ?
I’m close to OC.

You want to carry a camper shell around? Do you at least have the Max Tow/Payload Package? If not like my Sport S, you will only have enough weight rating for up to 1,100lbs? Even so I believe then it’s 1,600 lbs. So theirs is feeling ok and being legal liability wise in any accident. No matter what springs you add, there’s no way to change the legal factory rating. Good luck.

The pop up camper shell I'm looking at only weighs about 295 pounds. Other than that, I do pack very light for my other camping equipment. I appreciate the concern though!
