Hey everyone,

I'm planning on getting the Clayton 2.5" overland plus lift kit and was wondering if running the HD rear coils on an empty bed would be a bad idea? has anyone ever done this before?

I was wondering about this because in a year or two ill be getting a pop up camper shell(300-400 pounds), but in the mean time will the HD coils suck with no additional rear weight? I don't really care if the truck has a rake(I prefer at least some rake), unless its going to be more rake than stock.

Probably pretty stiff/bouncy. I did my Clayton Overland lift after the factory suspension could no longer support the weight.
What camper are you getting?

The Clayton 2.5 is definitely stiff. Just pair it with a bit softer than stock set of shocks. I put on Fox 2.5" and it rides just fine for my liking. Falcon adjustable would work as well if budget permits. You might want to consider putting a 1" Teraflex spacer in the front until you load it up to keep original rake. Most of all PUT COIL SLEEVES ON!!!!! Unloaded, the springs will clap together. Will drive you insane with every bump.

gasser with the HD springs. Have a fridge in bed constantly, the canopy, a 37" spare, storage box on top, a 270* awning and a dual-swing out rear bumper on order. That constant weight plus the stuff I load up for 2 adults and 2 kids for camping/overlanding is a good bit of additional weight.

Interesting. I had to replace my rear spring with Dobinson 3" lift extreme duty (800-1200lb) to get rid of the rear sag. But I was running the regular clayton 2.5" overland plus kit with Falcon 3.3. Full load out include alucab contour, 270 awning, rtt, bathroom awning, fridge and custom drawer etc. Front end is oem steel bumper with badland winch using original Clayton 2.5" springs.

With full load including 2 ignik propane tanks full bedding 20 gallons of water 270 awning solar, two 100ah Renogy batteries, and gear plus two adults. Ecodiesel Sport S. It handled Death Valley flawlessly. 300 miles off-road.

Where are you located CA? You can have my Clayton 2.5" non HD rear coils if you come by and pick it up.
