What are the downsides to this.? As far as I can tell it still utilizes the factory suspension. Allows you to run 37 on a rubicon so you have better angles. I think the factory shocks are just fine. I know you can get a lot of improvement with a suspension lift. But that seems to be a never ending thing . I think i would rather regear straigt off the bat than run 37s and wait to regear. Am I missing something here?

You can offroad with a spacer lift. Obviously, a good full suspension lift system will provide better performance, but as long as the spacer lift is complete (to include shock spacers, sway bar links, and caster correction), you can do quite a bit with it. Be prepared for Jeep elitists to say otherwise, but you most certainly can. Do you have your Rubicon yet, and is it an automatic?

What @Renegade said. ^

A couple good friends (3rd generation wheelers that have owned and built more Jeeps than I can count) both bought new JLUR's when they came out. They slapped on 2.5" spacer lifts, 37's, and headed straight for the Rubicon Trail. They did fine.
If you are not going taller than 2.5", I think you will be fine, I know I will.
