Anyoung want to guess what 4% of a tire's gaseous fill weighs? I can calculate it if you want, but your scale will not be able to tell the difference.
I could measure that weight difference at work... but why go through the effort. We have a couple systems for extremely low air flow meters that will measure the weight of a tank over time to determine a flow rate.

There are proper valve caps MS20813.

So TL;DR, please forgive me.
In Florida boats have a sacrificial anode due to dissimilar metals.
This is that, no bueno, but yeah, it`s a thing.

Can someone explain the supposed advantage of nitrogen to me. I am a chemical engineer and most arguments I hear are bunk. Air is 72% nitrogen and ignoring minor components 28% oxygen. Nitrogen (N2) as a molecular weight of 28, Oxygen (O2) is 32. So N2 at 28 v. air, a 72/28 blend of N2/O2 at 29.12. Air is 29.12 / 28 or 4% heavier. Anyoung want to guess what 4% of a tire's gaseous fill weighs? I can calculate it if you want, but your scale will not be able to tell the difference.

Is N2 drier than air? Water has a MW of 18 so is lighter than both O2 and N2 if you think weight is the issue.

Does the O2 on the inside of tire oxidize the rubber quicker? Maybe, but I doubt it. Is there evidence for this why people use N2?

Does the water on inside of tire corrode your wheels? I doubt it. Again, evidence? Most air compressors have a condenser to knock out the water?

I really want to understand why I should fill my tires with nitrogen. Give me a good reason and I will do it in a heartbeat!
Its all crap. PV = nRT is in charge all the time, regardless of the gas in question. However, (and I don't remember the details) the pressure will change more for a given change in temperature if there is water vapor in the gas. So . . .

Lets look at the goals.

1) Inexpensive
2) Not oxygen - unless its much cheaper than other gasses, best to avoid O2 to avoid inducing any more oxidation to the rubber and aluminum than is necessary.
3) dry - all industrial gasses are 100% dry with no moisture in them
4) non-flammable

Nitrogen is one of the least expensive industrial gasses you can buy, its non-flammable and its not an oxidizer. So it works.

You could fill your tires with one of the noble gasses like Argon, which would be even better since they are inert. But it would cost a fortune.

You could fill your tires with helium, which would be even better since you would save a gram or so, but it would cost a lot more.

Nitrogen just happens to occupy the sweet spot. A big part of that sweet spot is that its CHEAP, not that its BEST.

For all we know Formula 1 teams may be filling their tires with helium to save a gram.

So yes, its all 100% absolutely WORTHLESS.

You could run a scuba compressor, which removes all the moisture from the air, and fill with that and get the same results. Except that buying and maintaining a scuba compressor would probably cost more than just buying Nitrogen in bulk. Its that cheap.

Five pages and 70 posts about valve stem caps!

What would happen if someone were to introduce the possibilities of a reaction of air with Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) inside the tires?

I was told only the dealer can remove the green caps
You can do it yourself. But you may void the warranty.

cue the person with their explanation of the Magnusson Moss act . . . and go.

Oh yes!!!! Found some hand grenade looking valve stem caps, looked neat. Year later and all mi valve stems had to be replaced.
Now. Anyone who makes me mad gets them as Birthday or Christmas presents...LOL!!!

The dealer put nitrogen in mine, so it came with the green plastic caps. The take-offs I bought came with the black plastic caps. I've had two tires patched that picked up nails. I just use regular air to top them off. After 3.5 years, I'm not sure how much nitrogen is left.
Probably around 73%, 14-24% O2 then msl. other gasses. :giggle: all of us Scuba divers must have been laughing to think about the regular air vs nitrogen fill, I did have a tank with 32% EAN. :like:
Dang when I seen this thread it only showed 2 pages... probably due to limited service there. ?

Meh, you're all wet. I hear besides natural gas, the government want's to ban that, too, because it can lead to death if you drink too much of it.
