I'm leaning in this direction more and more, but much like tires or brakes, I keep feeling the need to wear out my current clutch before taking the plunge....
I can't find anything in the manual or service schedule, When do we expect the OE clutch to take a dump?
I know some of you are gonna say "any minute".... I'm just curious if this is within the next 5ish years... I'm already at 30k miles
Very late to this party. But my 2020 jt lived through the recalls. And just shat the bed clutch wise at 52,500kms. Wouldn't release at all!

Yeah I saw your post, that'd suck.

I Ordered the KCFT157077 in august of last year ('21), and am still waiting. turns out Quadratec/Centerforce are helping me be patient with my clutch's life span.

Yikes! Hopefully you can get a decent clutch. The CF Dual Friction clutch is much beefier than stock! Good luck.

It used to be that when an engine came to me to be rebuilt, or even just turn the crank and new bearings, I could tell those that came from a manual transmission because the thrust surface of the main bearing was worn to copper. It wasn't on the automatics.
I wonder how much force these take with a very heavy clutch in place - as far as the main bearing thrust surface - which is normally on only one of the mains.

So question, is the throw out bearing on the centerforce also mainly plastic like the stock jeep one which melted?

I guess this recall stops the clutch plate from overheating, but not the bearing.

Since the release bearing is only ever turning and touching the clutch when depressed, how the heck did it get that hot? It's sitting back from the pressure plate fingers when not depressed, and slides on the transmission nose - which also should not get hot.
That is - unless there's something very different about the clutch on these. That bearing should be back from the pressure plate fingers. There's no reason for it to get hot like that unless it was continuously running.

There's little reason for that bearing to get hot other than proximity to an over-heated clutch. It isn't running unless you keep the clutch pressed in at stop lights, or rest your foot on it. Otherwise it's back from the clutch a bit and not turning. That clutch had to get really hot for that.

Yikes! The Centerforce bearing is very similar to the stock bearing. What caused this to get so hot?!?!?

My running guess is maybe a bit of mud got in the bearing so it caused extra friction whenever it was moving and siezed it eventually with melted plastic? But I'll never really know

They might all be plastic nowadays. Here's the one from my 2019 GLI. I pulled it when I went stage 2+. But never any problems with it. The clutch in there was similar to the Jeep. Dual mass flywheel. This was from a vehicle with more torque than the Jeep, and it was still plastic. The south bend one I replaced it with was rated to 600 ft lbs and drag duty, and still plastic.

Question, you wheel a lot? When you're in 4lo, do you release the clutch going down hill? I know there's a warning in the owners manual about being in 4low with the clutch pressed in coasting. Might just be grasping at straws though. Who knows?

My wife never releases the clutch at lights. Like ever. Always in first gear waiting for it to turn. So I don't think that's a real problem on newer vehicles. I do it to sometimes, if I'm being honest, and it hasn't ever hurt anything (yet). But I'm really careful about releasing the clutch in 4lo after reading that in the manual.

That first batch on the 2020s might have just been crap.
