I am currently looking at a set of Nitto ridge grapplers in size 33/12.5R17 to go with a 9” wide rim. I don’t currently or plan on getting a lift and didn’t want to battle with removing the air dams..... so 33’s is as large as I’m feeling comfortable.
Thanks!

If you go with a 9" wheel with about a zero offset, the tire will still be properly centered on the hub. And 3½" wider is a lot better than 5" wider! I can't speak as to whether it'll rub or not (perhaps someone with experience in this matter will chime in.) You can also go a bit negative with the offset, which will move the wheel outwards, if rubbing might be a problem.

Zero problems ever on 12.5 wide tires on 7.5 wheels. Never known of or saw anyone have a issue but some like the look some don't. As far as running it you will be fine, I ran 315 70 17 BFG's on my stock 17x7.5 wheels with no lift and had zero issues for the couple days I ran them before putting the lift on. No rubbing at full lock right or left. I'm currently running 37 12.5 17 tires on my 17x7.5 wheels.
