....... With the willys I look at it and see another 5k in lifts and tires before I’m content. ......
I forgot to respond to this part of your post.

I was looking at it in a very similar way as well. I'm not sure if I am committing to the Gladiator like I have with my previous Jeeps so I don't want to put anything more into it in the short run and the stock Mojave can keep me comfortable with the way it is for the time being. My latest is a 2005 WK with almost 200k on the dial right now. I had been holding out for the new Bronco but reliability concerns with the WK are forcing me to make a more immediate decision. So, by approaching it like this I can now decide where I want to be in about three years time.

I love the Mojave package but in my mind it gets an automatic DQ because it isn't available with the best engine option in the line-up. And I'm not giving up 70% more torque and 30% more real world fuel economy to get a set of fancy shocks.

You can add fancy shocks to any Gladiator pretty easily. You cannot add 70% more torque and 30% more MPG easily.

Just remember that torque and MPG are going to cost a lot more not only at the dealership, but at the pump and service. But do I like I did and get what you want. Don’t let some jack @$$ like me try and talk you out of anything. ?????

For a $5000 difference between a similarly optioned Sport S max tow and a Mojave, I went all-in. I don’t regret it one bit. I also got leather seats. Saying that, the Willy’s is a nice option.

Once you see the sarge green in person, one realizes it looks way better then in pictures. I was cheap and got black top and fenders so it wasn’t all green. You can’t go wrong with a Willy or Mojave in sarge. I wasn’t sure if I would like the orange accents and sticker, but it blends in pretty good.

Hey everyone new to the forum and jeeping I Have been looking at buying a Jeep gladiator for my next vehicle and have narrowed the 2 models down to a willys and mojave. My biggest hangup on the willys is not having a rear locker. I know it has trackloc but it’s still not the same as a rear locker. Can any willys owners tell me how there’s preformed off-roading or a argument for getting a Mojave with the locker and more luxurious options.
Id go with the willys if you could get it with the rubicon/max tow axles, cause if you plan on building it I.e lift kit wheels tires and lockers,id rather go with the willys edition since i bet its a hell of alot cheaper and you could dump tons in upgrades and beat the mojave in just about anything and "you didnt have to break the bank" if you just went with a mojave and did all the stuff mentioned above, but if your gonna keep it stock (wich is hard to do cause that was my plan but here i am 3000 dollars in,into my rubicon)go with a mojave, and if you plan on building a mild offroad beast with badass suspension go with the willys and save yourself some moneyz

Your photo does a nice job of showing just how nice that color really is.
Was that taken with a phone?

I took the picture with a phone. I caught the evening sun so you can see how it looks shaded and in the sun.

There is a bit more included than just a set of (Fancy Shocks) ... For instance the frame, shock towers, and front control arms have been strengthened , cast-iron steering knuckles, and a thicker rear axle .. steel skid plate, modified anti-roll bars & wider rear track for more stability. Also includes the max tow fan for when operating in hotter climates, off road plus mode allows the rear locker to be activated in 4hi .. Inside the seats are bolstered and steering wheel is race inspired .. I'm sure I missed a few things .. however when including the shock set up and strengthened frame designed to accommodate the set up, I think its a good value upgrade for the increased cost ..

The Mojave is nice and I plan to pick one up next week. If the max tow package with 410 axle was available with a manual 6spd that would have made the sport S route appealing. AFAIK the only way to get 410 axle and manual is Rubicon/Mojave.

From the factory, yes. You can always regear.

Couple question not asked but I think is the most important:

- What will you be using your Gladiator for mostly?
- What is your point of use?

This will get you to which vehicle is ideal for you. (sport, willys, mojave or rubicon)

That said I went Willys. In my state and location I can't get the pricing that most people are getting (i.e. 5K cost difference to a Mojave vs. Willys). You guys/gals who have that option are very lucky and very good at bargaining.

In the end I went Willys because of what my future plans are and starting with a Willys is going to suit me and my build. It will take a lot of time for me to be "done" as I am a habitual tinker and change person.

The final chapter for anything is to be happy with what you have. I am really lucky to own such an expensive truck and have a wife who is cool with it!

It was all about budget for me. I generally purchase used and fairly basic features on my vehicles. Last October I was bit by the JT bug and last week was able to make it work financially. I would absolutely love a Rubicon or Mojave but I could not find one of those trims with the hard top, 8.4 screen, 8 speed auto for what my budget is of about 40k. I did look at used but found those prices to be nearly the same as a new unit.

My goal with my Willys is to pay it off within three years and then start building. Right now I'm doing real basic things such as mud flaps, bed cover, storage bin organizer.

What I can say is that a with a message board such as this one, you will feel as if everyone is able to by top level trim and then throw in 5-10K of stuff. Well we cannot all do that and it is completely normal to not be able to do that. What you can do is work a JT into a budget and have one hell of a vehicle even near base trims and options. Turning a base unit into a beast is entirely possible with even a limited budget if a person gives it time. Let that time slip on by while enjoying doors off, top off, and trails that were off limits to previous vehicles you may have owned.
