Does anyone happen to know the size of the windshield bolt?

Jeep Gladiator windshield hinge bolt IMG_9873

Also, any suggestions on protecting the paint when removing it?

A torx bit is likely to chip the paint inside the head of the bolt.

I know... :-( I have touch up paint on standby lol. Also not sure how tight this thing is and what to expect but I have to take them off for the cowl mounts.

I also don't know what size it is though... because the paint no doubt makes it smaller than the bolt size actually is. And thats a little concerning. Rounding this one off is NOT something I want to do.

I'd have to compare my largest bits to mine and see how close it is. Seat belt bolts take bits that look about that size but the photo may be tricking me without being at my truck to compare.
Those are like T47 or T50.

I didnt' look SUPER close, but it sorta looks to be the size of whatever the largest bit is included in the little jeep kit to remove the hard top - isn't that one a T47? or maybe its a 45.... But I ran out of time so didn't really try to fit it in there. I want to make sure it fits before doing that so I don' have to fix the paint twice.

It’s the same size one as the hard top bolts or door bolts. The oem kit has one of the two torx that will fit it

Thank you. I kinda thought it might be but wanted to verify.

Did you take your hinge off by chance? How tight is it on there? Just curious of what to expect so I dont make a problem and strip it.

I did, I like taking the entire windshield out instead of folding it down, if this is your plan, take those bolts out first instead of after you have laid it down. Some of the paint did come off but I didn’t do anything to protect it. I did have to bump the ratchet a bit to break them loose the first time

Oh nice I never thought of that before.

It's not for taking the windshield down/off but rather so I can mount a cowl bracket that ties into one of the cowl piece bolts, and one into the windshield bolts. I figure it will give better strength since it ties into a bolt for lateral and horizontal support instead of others that just use 2 of the cowl bolts. I honestly don't plan on even taking the top off on this thing - but usually use the little 06 TJ for that instead :)

I think I’ve seen those kind of mounts, they’re nice and I would get them too but there’s just something crazy fun about no windshield on a nice trail! Good luck with your project!

the torx bit size that fits into the bolt head. But fishburger mentioned above that it is the same size as the hardtop bolts.

Jeep sells the hinge with the bolt installed and unpainted, so you may want to be prepared to remove the entire hinge rather than the bolt. If it doesn't have the Torx size stamped on it like the door and other hinge bolts do, it's likely not meant to be removed to the owner or a mechanic.

Good point - I appreciate the link.

But the cowl bracket I have does have to go through that hinge bolt otherwise it can't be used properly. But I am a little nervous about stripping it out. That would not be a fun day
