OK, I went in to a Jeep dealer yesterday to ask why / if the battery needs to be disconnected. The answer is, "it doesn't". According to him, the purpose would be to keep the battery from being discharged, which would be the case in virtually every state for a required braking system in the towed vehicle. In my case I use a Roadmaster Easy Brake which uses power from the on-board battery. The solution is to keep the battery charged from the RV, which I am doing. Bottom line, NO NEED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, just keep it charged.

My guess is that your owner’s manual was cut and pasted from a previous model year and/or another vehicle. They are rarely “original manuscripts”. My 2008 WK manual has the 2007 fuse list, which is completely different. It was finally corrected on line. I was baffled until I figured it out. I once worked on manuals, so I know how these things happen. Owner and service manuals get updated by individual engineering departments, and sometimes things get missed.
