Wolfbox Wide View Mirrors With Blind Spot - Test & Review

Wolfbox sent me their new mirror glass inserts, now with the blind spot monitoring functionality included. They wanted me to test them for BSM functionality, as this is a new feature. Others have reviewed the convex functionality on the model without BSM, so much of that has been discussed.

As with everything I’ve gotten from Wolfbox, the packaging was very well done. Having received SO MANY damaged shipping damaged items from other vendors, this is nice to see.

The instructions were clear and accurate. Per their recommendation, I adjusted the mirrors all the way up, then carefully used a wide trim tool to let the bottom edge. They both popped out without damage or difficulty. You need to remove two heating element wires, which I marked with a sharpie to make sure they went back in the original positions. The BSM wiring is clipped into a retainer. It and its wires need to be carefully removed with a pick before disconnection. Then the old mirror is out.

I also took the opportunity to clean the inside of the housing with detail wipes. Lots of dust from across the country in there.

You need to remove one of the adjustment stops for use in the new glass. It doesn’t matter which, but one of them allows access for a pick below the stop, so that one is easier. Then install it into the same spot in the Wolfbox glass.

I found that the connector for the BSM light (triangle) on the new glass wasn’t a match for the oem connector. This was a test of a new product, so no big deal. I cut the connector off the oem mirrors and solder/heat shrink connected them to the new mirrors. Prior to permanently connecting them, I tested the connection for functionality with the jeep, and documented the correct wiring connections. I communicated this to Wolfbox. The correct connections are as follows:


Wolfbox Mirror Black —> Jeep Harness Redish Brown
Wolfbox Mirror Red —> Jeep Harness Gray

Then it’s just a matter of routing the wires, and carefully snapping the new mirror onto the motor assembly, making sure the adjustment stop goes into its cavity.

I tested the blue tint version of these, and was very happy I did. They’re much nicer on the eyes. I purposefully did this install right before a 9 hour round trip with my 14x7 enclosed cargo trailer, with a decent amount of night driving. The wide angle was immediately an improvement. Leaving my narrow driveway with that trailer was historically difficult, because the factory mirrors weren’t able to show the side clearance of the trailer and the driveway. I can now easily see this on both sides. The blue tint eliminated headlight glare from the rear with larger trucks.

Others have said they’ve had trouble with full adjustability with this glass. I didn’t have that problem at all, with either side. It has the same range of motion the oem glass had in my opinion. But the convex shape provides a wider and taller view. I genuinely love these mirrors. What a difference in function. And I never wanted to change the look of my jeep by changing the housings, or adding something to them. The BSM triangle is the same color orange, and looks oem. Even though they are heated, they opted to skip the etching of the heat symbol, and the passenger “objects in the mirror are…” text. Both are fine with me. It’s a cleaner look and we already know those things.

I spoke to Wolfbox in detail about the connector mismatch, and provided detailed pictures of the oem connector. They’re correcting it on their end with production.

While these were provided to me to test, this is an honest review, without any sugar coating. I’d say these are a very nice upgrade for a very reasonable price. The blue tint and blind spot functions are both options. I’d definitely recommend these.

I agree they provide a wider view, my complaint is they provide a wider view in the wrong direction, IMO. I know many in the other mirror thread wanted to be able to see their truck for when a trailer is hooked up, but I don't want to see more of my truck, I want to see more to the lane beside me which is what side view mirrors are intended for. If I adjust mine to where I had my OEM mirrors adjusted to, I would only see the rear passenger door and bedside, so I have to adjust mine all the ways out until they stop to see any of the lane next to me. These would be perfect if Wolfbox changed the angle of the lens so that if you want to see the side of your truck and trailer, then you move the mirrors in a little bit.

I’ve seen other reviews of the non-BSM version with similar takeaways. I’ve also seen some where people say they can’t adjust far enough out. I’m wondering if a slight difference in how the glass got attached could cause that. I don’t know, but I think it’d be worth removing and reattaching the glass to see if it helps.

I may try a set when they put them up on the website. Not sure how they’re going to work with tint and I usually wear polarized Oakley sun glasses. I guess if I don’t like em I can always send em back for the non blued version.

I always wear polarized and my front side windows are tinted to match the rear doors. I like the blue. Big improvement at night.
