That is a sealant, not a polish. So it’s filling in the marring left behind, not actually removing it.

The average person may not be able to tell or even see it, or they might not even be picky enough to care… so it doesn’t really matter, it’s just a cautionary tale for people who might try to do what you’re doing. It IS possible for someone who doesn't know what they are doing to make things worse, I've seen it many times.

well, dang I learned something new. What kind of polish should i be using? Should i be using that before the blacklight? is it even needed? m105 and some spray QD has been my go to for removing swirls and light scratches for years. i usually followed it up with meguiars (the old 1,2,3 system they had) last several years ive used blacklight, then meguiars NXT tech wax(why on earth did they discontinue that stuff!)

If you’re using the Meguiar’s ceramic sealant then the black light is redundant, so you don’t need it no. I’m not really a fan of CG products. They’re expensive for what they are, and most consumers can buy just about anything I can. The wax you’re using is fine. I prefer a spray on/wipe off silica sealer like Gtechniq C2V3, or a spray on/rinse off sealer like CarPro Hydro 2.

There are a bunch of finish polishes out there, if you like M105 then M210 is a good follow up. Use a medium-ish pad. Then top it with the sealer of your choice. Koch Chemie Micro cut is another good choice. It diminishes well so it works exceptionally on black vehicles.

thank you, i will certainly look into that. I typically cut with the cg orange pads, apply by hand with orange for m105, and apply of polish is the black pads. typically buff out by hand, but have used the buffer for that. Just did not need to with this wax.

Great write up. I am admittedly nuts about the appearance of my vehicles, so my process is more than is really needed. But, Chemical Guys V38/34/36/32 then BlackLight, then Butter Wax.

One of my favorite things about this community, and Jeeps in general, is that half of this group is out there beating their JT like it’s a rented mule and the other half is doing 5 hour wax sessions like it’s a ‘63 split window headed to concours.
