Bad news for anyone with one on order. Previously it was safe from the chip shortage.

Microchip shortage hits Jeep Gladiator production

July 29, 2021

A global shortage of microchips is hitting more truck production, with the Jeep Gladiator its latest victim.

Stellantis NV's Toledo South Assembly Plant in Ohio will halt production of the midsize pickup next week. It's the first time scarcity of the semiconductors used in consumer electronics, including vehicles' assisted driving functions, infotainment and heated seats, has stopped production of the Gladiator.

"Stellantis continues to work closely with our suppliers to mitigate the manufacturing impacts caused by the various supply chain issues facing our industry," spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in a statement.

Production of Jeep's flagship Wrangler SUV, which is built at Toledo North Assembly Plant, will continue.

Stellantis on Thursday had said Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, home of the Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars and the Chrysler 300 sedan, also would be down next week. The automaker updated those plans late Thursday, saying Brampton will resume production next week.

Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario will resume production of Chrysler minivans next week. It also will run the week of Aug. 9, a change to an earlier schedule saying production would be halted that week. The plant also will idle the weeks of Aug. 16 and 23 for the previously scheduled summer shutdown.

Production of the Jeep Cherokee crossover in Belvidere, Illinois, will resume next week with one shift after the automaker indefinitely laid off the second shift. Jeep Compass assembly will resume next week in Toluca, Mexico, as well.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares last week told the Automotive Press Association the chip shortage is expected to extend easily into 2022. The demand created from the COVID-19 pandemic that has led to the tight supply is expected to cost the industry $110 billion this year, according to consulting firm AlixPartners LLP.

General Motors Co. on Wednesday said it would restart production of its full-size truck plants next week after they idled for a week because of the short stock, but certain SUVs from Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet still were affected.

Yep, I just got the email yesterday that my order has gone from an 8 week ETA to 16-weeks. That puts me at November 1 which makes me wish I just waited for the 2022. Late week bummer.

Well mine was still in D status the beginning of the week. Looks like a long wait now. Ordered 7-13 through Gupton.

As long as you didn't order Gecko I wouldn't worry about it. You may end up with a 2022. Or better yet just change your order if there are any 2022 changes.

Thought I saw where some of the companies were trying to reconfigure things on their vehicles so that they could ship and sell them with out the chip at this time and then at a later date have the vehicle brought back in to have the chip added as well as the features that the chip ran. I am pretty sure a lot of folks wouldn't give a damn it Auto Start/Stop was one of those features

Just got the email late yesterday. I will have a conversation with Travis at Tri-City on what my options are at this point. With a VIN already generated, I don't know if I can just cancel the order at this point, but maybe I can...

You are not obligated to buy an ordered vehicle. You could always just order another one.

Oh man feel like i dodged a bullet. My order was moved to inspection in the last day or so. Delivery is still TBD but not having to wait for chips is nice.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I ordered this after finally giving up on my Bronco :(

I ordered mine July 1st and My Sales dude said it was done wed with an estimated shipdate of 7/30. Jeep chat on the same day it was in framing status.

Anybody with a similar order date have any other insight?

I ordered Rubi with all the options (and chips!) on July 5, and they are telling me it's built and now going through other final assembly stages with a delivery date in approximately 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, I have the Mopar COI, Pedal Commander and Corsa Touring exhaust sitting in my garage awaiting the JT!

I would imagine if your vehicle is already in the build process they’ll finish it, just probably not starting any new builds. That’s the part that sucks for people like me who ordered on June 23rd and still don’t have build dates, now it may never get built (or at least not as a 2021 model). Although Jeep chat told me they’re not canceling my order, it will just be delayed.

Idk my dealer wanted a refundable 3k deposit if I decide I don't want it. I guess unless you paid a deposit you likely don't need to do anything.
