For me its shocks....3000-5000$ for 4 shocks? Get real.

Plus these jeeps are crazy capable with only a minor lift. You really really dont need that 18 arm triple forged heim joint with bypass bump stop shocks if your not on 42's with a bobbed bed.
[

Now I’m not trying to knock on your post….

But have you ridden in the desert in a Jeep with properly tuned suspension? (Bypass shocks, hydro bumps, etc.) tire size isn’t going to change the fact that you can drive with speed and it’s not compressing your spine…..

We had 8100’s for the last month of ownership of our jku…. I will definitely be doing it again with the JT.
$4500 sucks to throw at shocks…. But it completely changes everything about the off road experience.

Trailers too... What about racks and roof top tents? They become status symbols. Like really dude, you need 6 rotopax, an axe, a shovel, and an ARB refrigerator in your vehicle at all times for the 3 times a year you go to a developed campground and call it overlanding? Ha!
Exactly!!

I agree ... it's out of control. I believe a large driver of these prices to be simply because they can. It's a perfect example of how a free market will drive itself into a recession. I've been to a point for some time when looking at a modification .... first I ask do I really need it? .. does it really solve a problem or is it simply aesthetics? .... I just heard a saying ... your rig is finished when you unbolt and remove all the crap that you don't need.

It is very simple: The Law of Supply and Demand.. this drives pricing of products !
e.g...
Six-figure Cadillac Celestiq ultra-luxury electric car revealed $300,000
Cadillac says it will be the new "Standard of the World"
The real question here is whether there will be a steelie on the Cadillac....

Is everyone taking into consideration the cost of materials for the last year?
I literally have disconnected our plasma table, welder hasn’t been ran in 6 months….. steel here in the PNW is still up almost 400%, I don’t work with aluminum much but it’s definitely expensive as all get out too….. 12% spool is almost 1.5x the cost…..
get into labor issues and things just ?.

I think someone else already nailed the rest. Supply and demand. Covid really ramped up the overland and Jeep scene by a LOT… everyone is trying to catch up to that YouTube scene! Gotta be like Brad with trail recon (?)

Correct. YouTubers become advertising platforms, so all the sponsor merch they carry around all day makes it seem as if the lifestyle they lead is 1) something attainable and 2) even necessary in the first place.

Thankfully it's easy enough to spot the actual Jeep/offroad fans that have channels because they love what they do, not because they're being given free stuff to promote.

Case in point - Go watch Eddie and his friends beat the snot out of their JKs on the Rubicon trail. He and Cindy know their stuff, and they seek to educate, not sell.

Honestly, is there anything that isn't subject to Kardashianization? It isn't just Jeeps, it is everything -- even something as seemingly out there as fly fishing.

It isn't just the hard costs, but people do not take into account the "soft costs" that go into things, (including the labor) up and down the production and logistics chain. From my work to being around in various hobbies and endeavors, ,it seems that everyone is so self-centered in that their time is a precious commodity but that anyone else's time can be discounted to be de minimis in value.

Lol truth! It’s funny last year construction was booming- damn here any price you put on a project people threw money at it.

The money folks have pulled out of their houses, inflation and other factors kicked in quick….

My prices have stayed the same (labor wise) before, during, and now…. But the reactions are now turning ugly- I’m not the most expensive guy out there, not the cheapest….. it’s is what it is…. But now that a lot of folks surplus cash from last years boom is up. Things are changing in a hurry.

We all know really why….just can’t say the truth as some have eluded too. Supply and demand can be manipulated. Policies have a LOT to do with it. Carry on….nothing to see here.

I shoot a lot. and reload for what I shoot. You want to talk about supply and demand, or crazy prices. A brick of a 1,000 primers was around $20.00. Now it's a dollar a primer in some places. So that's $1,000 for a brick. Some gun powders you can't get. Go on Gun Broker and see some crazy high prices. What I'm getting at. Covid and everything else you want to throw into that group is affecting what you pay for things.
