Has anyone dealt with a buy back from Jeep?

I loved my Gladiator. I waited two years for the trailer brake controller but when it finally came available I excitedly ordered a Rubicon eco-diesel, checked almost every option box, added bedliner, wheels and tires, Warn winch and a bumper…

At 13,000 miles and in a very remote part of Montana, the turbocharger blew, taking out other components down the stream. Please don’t be fooled when you are told that parts are “on back order”. Try to get a feel for what that really means. I know personally of two eco-diesel‘s that have been in the shop for over six months and there’s no end in sight.

The dealership where I purchased the truck has been great but they informed me that the manufacturer of the turbo charger no longer works with Jeep and they are looking for another vendor. There are no turbo chargers available anywhere in the world so it looks like my Jeep will be spending a winter outside in Montana.

My dealership said the best we can offer is to work with Jeep to do a buyback. What’s that? I said. They said they do it. It’s a thing. This is all completely new to me.

Does anyone have experience with this? What are the pitfalls? I don’t know what I don’t know.

Yup, this is just another reason I passed on the EcoBomb option. I'll deal with a meger V6 til I can swap it.......at least I'll get to drive it ......... knocking on wood

Toyota did buybacks with Tacomas years ago and they were pretty amazing. 150% of KBB retail. I sold them my 2000 and bought a 2005 for very little out of pocket.
I'm not expecting Jeep to treat you that well, but it's information.

I'm not expecting Jeep to treat you that well, but it's information.

I broke completely even minus the time spent waiting, not driving, and now having to spend a but more for a 23....
Now I did get a couple perks, like EP and front of the line option...

If someone does a search in the forums for buyback, I've had several posts about it, can't hit them all

Mine is a done deal, everyone paid... just did a U connect on it this morning, it's sitting in what looks like a salvage yard... damn shame too, was totally fixed

Can I ask what were the basic terms of the buyback? How do they determine a value? Do you get any expedited ordering status?

Well putting the confidentiality agreement LOL.... 100% of all money out, employee pricing, expedited build once I order....
I would have considered a cash and keep, but the offer was ridiculously low... they could have trippled it and had the same out of pocket for them and not had to deal with the JT

I think Stellantis has been doing a lot of buybacks the past few years given the massive lead times for certain components. That way they can repair the vehicle when the part finally comes available and they recoup most of their money at the auction.

Seen quite a few used JL/JTs with buyback disclosures on the carfaxes. There is one CDJR near me that particularly likes those and seems to scoop them up at Manheims all over the region. A few were the 3.0l Eco diesels but some others were gas but the issues ranged from engine replacement to steering issues.

A buyback is basically lemoning your car. Check with a lemon lawyer in your area for the terms but it sounds like a good option to get out of a truck that got problems.

All good information. Thank you. My first choice would be to simply repair this vehicle. I ordered it exactly the way I want and it’s practically new. I’ve also put about 10 grand in wheels, tires, winch, bumper, etc. They are just telling me that parts are simply unavailable.
