Has anyone else with a Mojave and the Wildpeak MT’s experienced crappy steering especially at highway speeds. Drift with play in the steering wheel?

It may be a relative question. Are you new to Jeeps or are you coming from a vette or mustang?

New to Jeeps but not MT’s
Jeeps drive differently. They also change as you stack on the miles. It’s a trade off. Newer steering systems with the rack and pinion system have a much better on center feel and generally come on vehicles with Independant front suspensions. Solid axle vehicles have a completely different feel. To my knowledge, Jeep JL & JT’s, Ford Super Duty and 3/4 and 1 ton dodges are the only remaining solid axle vehicles. Arguably, unless you spend 10’s of thousands of dollars altering an Independant front suspension, the Jeep is the most capable all purpose vehicle on the market…in my opinion.

Most of the time, the folks not understanding what they’re purchasing are the ones that carry the most dissatisfaction. This isn’t to say there hasn’t been some issues over time, but again, tell me a vehicle that hasn’t had issues or quirks. It’s part of the charm.

Now, this doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do to make improvements. If, or when you experience death wobble, accelerate a bit to shift weight from the front axle and gently, but steadily bring your speed down to 30-35 mph and you should drive out of it. It can be unnerving. Find the issue, which is usually a worn or loosened part of the front suspension. Death wobble is not a Jeep only thing. While I’ve never had it on my ‘08 3/4 ram with 200k on the ticker, I’ve known numerous folks with Fords that have had it.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps.

another part of this is where you drive. To add to the solid front axle is a short and narrow wheel base. So they can get pulled into ruts on some highways where road surfaces are not nice and flat. I personally feel a huge difference driving on interstates through cities where roads are rutted out from such heavy use where the jeep feels to wonder a ton as compared to remote highways that are in better condition and not rutted. Compared to my 06 TJ, the gladiator drives like a cadillac on a cloud and tracks perfectly.

Jeep is the most capable all purpose vehicle on the market…in my opinion.
Man one of my biggest fears is some day Jeep may ditch the solid axle in favor of people wanting more comfort. It would totally destroy the whole purpose of a Jeep IMO. Solid front axle is one of the main reasons I chose the gladiator over any other option.

The wife has them on the 4Runner now. After a wear In period the squirliness settled a lot. On heavy duty apparatus with new shoes that’s normal too, if it helps. That’s my 2¢

So I put 37x12.50r17 Cooper Stt Pros on my gladiator, when I first drove it it would have a slight bounce at 70mph getting worse till 80, edit: Ok 85 but I got scared.

After Maybe 300-400 miles the bounce at 70 is gone.

I am balancing these with magnum+ balancing beads, 14.5oz per tire, but I would vouch for letting your mud terrains wear in.
