It looks like Toyo is releasing a new tire next month called Open Country R/T Trail which will slot in between the current A/TIII and the R/T. Rather than a happy medium, it appears to be the best of both (minus 3PMS rating).

It should release next month and it looks to be exactly what I’m looking for, but I can’t find much about them other than available sizes. I’m looking for specs, prices and specific delivery dates. Does anybody else know about these?

@Discount Tire do you have any details?

The Toyos on the wife’s JL are fantastic. Great off road traction and the on road manners are beyond exceptional. Especially the quiet. So much so, I have thought once or twice about going Toyo once my Coopers are done.

wonder if this will just be a re-badged Nitto Trail Grappler.

Off of Toyo website …..damn …no 17x13.5.

We may need a thread dedicated to hybrid tires, seems like new options are coming up often. I saw Falken will have a Wildpeak R/T supposedly by the end of the year.

@Alans17, thank you for your question. The new Toyo Open Country R/T Trail looks to be another solid tire from Toyo. We don't have the specs at this time other than what is on Toyo's website

https://www.toyotires.com/product/open-country-rt-trail/

There are a few magazine reviews as well that are posted on Google.

We are excited for this new tire to hit the market, it looks to be another good addition to their lineup.

I’m guessing y’all don’t do preorders?

I wonder if any of these new RT tires will end up with a 3PMSF rating. I can’t justify buying a tire without knowing it can handle on road snow, but want the most aggressive tire possible.

I am happy with how my KO2’s and Falken AT3W’s have done for what they are, and am leaning towards Mickey Baja boss AT’s next but would be really tempted by anything new if it kept the severe snow rating.

I would guess no, given the block design doesn't include any snow siping. The ATIII has the rating but it's got the siping too and Toyo claims a 5 for snow. The M/T has no such rating and they claim a 3.5. The R/T blocks look more like the M/T ones and only got a 4, so seems unlikely to have 3PMSF

I’ve never owned either, but I think both Duratracs and Baja Boss ATs are pretty aggressive for an AT and have 3PMS ratings. The Duratrac sidewall is tame, but the tread is aggressive. The Baja Boss AT talks the talk and walks the walk.

As for me, I live in Texas and might get 2-3 snow days per year. So while 3PMS is nice to have, it’s the first thing I’d give up if a tire met my other qualifications.

Don't wait for this tire IMO, the Baja Boss AT is as good as it gets.
It is miles better than the Falken AT3W in the snow and ice.

Probably true, but it’s also likely to be heavier and significantly more expensive in the size I’m looking at.
