Death Wobble settlement agreement in class-action case could mean reimbursement for some Jeep owners

I'm curious to know if the old solid front axle Toyota 4x4 pickups (back before they were named "Tacoma" suffered from death wobble. Anybody know? I'm sure it can happen to any solid front axle vehicle after they get a lot of miles on them and suspension/steering components are worn and need to be replaced, but did it happen to Toyotas or any other solid front axle vehicles when they were close to new as it seems to have happened with some Jeeps? Just wondering if this is truly a "Jeep thing" or a wider issue.

I wouldn't expect the full value of my stabilizer, there would obviously be a limit to reimbursement for the fix.

leaf spring front axle on those yotas, less chance of it happening. I had one and never had any hint of DW with it nor the OBS 4x4 Ford F350 also leaf sprung. I also put leaves under an MJ with front axle Dana 44 axle swap from a GW. Never an issue there even with 8”es of lift and 38x 14.50 swampers and running 75 on the interstate. Also drove for a while with no trac bar.

Even nearly-new completely stock ones (as I've read happening with nearly new stock Gladiators)? Not hating... honest question. I'm new to Jeeps and 4x4s in general, so I'm learning more about them every day. Thankfully no issues with mine yet at just over 6k miles - with plenty of highway driving.

Yeah, it happens. In those cases it's often loose parts - things not truly up to full torque as far as bolts and nuts. (assuming completely stock means even the tires and wheels it came with)
In those cases, it's weird, but the steering stabilizer has seemed to "make it disappear" in some cases.
So there's arguments that "it fixes it" while experts from years ago say naw, it's a bandaid.

At least on a bone-stock Jeep (or any vehicle for that matter) if it's in warranty, they gotta "fix it" - and can't blame the owner/driver.

Yes, it happens, but it's again amplified a bit by the internet and the fact it's happened for at least 60 years. That means a ton more cases even though the number per year may not really be that high. It's also made worse by the sheer magnitude of the issue - it's not "annoying" it's not a noise that can be ignored - it scares the #@$% out of you.

Bummer, with my 2020 - I'd get a stabilizer.
With my 2022, I'm just out of luck.
Apparently, it can't possibly ever have DW since there's a cut-off date.
I feel a lot better knowing that my truck will never experience that and neither will my wife's 2023 Wrangler! Good, I feel a lot better. It's a 2023, won't have any such issues.

The death Wobble i had on my '00 WJ was mostly corrected with a new stabilizer but it only masked the bigger issue causing it. Glad it was taken before it took me!! That was some scary crap having that thing. Really was scared for my life more times than can count.

I've never had DW like I had in my WJ. It was a nice car for the time, I loved the V8 in it, but it had DW bad. The dealer was always just one repair away from a fix when we sold it. It would happen at any speed and was uncontrollable. We had it in so many times it was ridiculous. I've never felt it in another vehicle anywhere near as bad since.

We've had a number of Cherokees (early 1990s), my Comanche, and a list of Grand Cherokees including ZJ, multiple WJs and on up.
It's amazing the number of Jeeps we've had - never any issue like that.
My brother trades Jeeps of various types like the horse traders of old (starting with a CJ7 waay back when) and never an issue.
We must be holding our hands just right on the steering wheel or something.

I got my postcard today for my 2020 Overland. I appreciate the unhappiness from those who have had to deal with this issue, and wish that there was more compensation for the "pain and suffering" aspect. I am satisfied with the extension of my warranty for an issue that I have not experienced, but now have recourse if I do.
