Just wanted to see what everyone thought about this heat shrink and abrasion wrap I put on yesterday. My winch rope was getting beat up from the elements, I figured I could cover it up for the time being until I can get a factor 55 flatlink. Please let me know what you think!

I am using this silicone/fiberglass insulation for electrical, and this locking hook for my winch. I agree that you need something to protect synthetic rope from the sun.

I ran electrical tape around the line on the thimble, does not really move and used it twice and no problem with it. I have a flat link on with the line guard added so nothing exposed, putting a cover on your winch if you have not yet is also good. I have the basic Factor55 flat link, it was the most reasonable and it will do what I need , but the next step up has a larger opening that allows shackles to pass through. There are other options out there that cover very well also....Jack

That's the purpose of the black sheath behind the wrap you put on. You could also prevent exposure by winching your hook all the way in instead of hooking it to your shackle.

I think it's for looks.
