I have about 3,000 miles on the truck. I live in Oklahoma and there are some hills. Highway speed limits 75 here and I keep it at 75. Sometimes wind can be an issue. However, at 75 I never do better than 18.
In town, with patients, planning and timing of lights, I can average about 19.5 on a tank. I suppose I could deal with losing 2 MPG
At 75mph you’ll notice a good drop on mpg with larger heavier tires. Its the general consensus that 60-65mph is the max highway speed before you start seeing a big mpg hit. I dont live in a area with a 75mph speed limit, but can absolutely say i see a drop even if i set my cruise to 70mph.

at the end of the day its your truck and you have to drive/see it every day. So if your dieing for the looks of larger tires than the mpg hit isn’t a huge deal. ?‍♂

just be cognizant of heavy heavy tires and the long term wear they place on components. I was NOT cognizant of that on my JKU and had to replace a bunch of stuff before I just sold it.

my absolute best advice is to drive it for a while stock and really get a feel for the truck. Wear some of the stock tread down before you make a swap. See how it handles the winter for you stock, or see how it does camping or towing. Once you have a good baseline it makes modification decisions WAY easier

Stick w your plan. I have the Max Tow with 35x12.5. Your 11.5 will make a good difference in body throw and enhance passenger comfort. I did 8.5 wide Mopar wheels w/ mine. I like your original plan a lot!! I am 20 on the big highway and 17 around town. I wont attest to any backspacing issues with he stock wheels and your 11.5, You have to get smart people to chime in on that. The 8 sp. loves my 35s.

Does anyone have actual change in MPG from switching to 35 x 11.5 tires.
I have a Sport S with Max Tow package- therefore wider axles and 4:10 gears.
I like my stock rims so was looking at Toyo Open County AT III because they are spec’d for 17x7.5 rims and have 50K warranty.
I know they maybe too Pizza Cutter for some but I think I will be OK with them.
I currently have the Dueler AT LT245/75R with a Tread width of 7.4”, 31.5 diameter and 42 lb weight.

Toyo 35x11.5
Tread width of 9”, 34.5 diameter and 62 lb weight.

So a 1.6” wider and therefore a little more rolling resistance and 20lb more weight.
Not enough impact, go with at least a 12.5" tire for more impact, and ideally taller

But can you deal with losing 4 or 5 MPG? Don't forget, your results may vary. Just because one person lost two MPGs doesn't mean you will do the same. You have to be willing to take a hit, there's no other way around it. All in with mine (granted I'm 4.5" lift with 37s), I lost 7-8mpg over stock. Do I miss the extra mileage? You bet I do. Do I regret losing the extra mileage? Not a chance in hell.

Maybe consider 33's, better look and capability than your stock, won't lose all the performance and MPG's of the 35's. I swapped the OEM MT's for these BFG KO2's and couldn't be happier. These tires exceeded my expectations on performance, noise and MPGs. I can hit 20 on the highway at a steady 70 and normally 16-17 around town.

Something to also considering. The LT285/70R17 only weigh 11lbs more than the tires I currently have.

I like your advice of not getting in too big a hurry and getting a good base-line first.

I have a 21' Willys and installed Toyo AT3's 35*11.5/17's about 2 months ago and yes I have seen a decrease in mileage. Most probably around 1-1.5 mpg.

Toyo 11.5" are among the lightest 35" tires. I have them and enjoy the truck more (I switched from the stock 33"s right away, so can't compare mileage).

Yes, I'm sure stock gets better mpg and other practical stuff. But so does a Toyota Camry. And we want the fun that a Jeep brings, not practicality - or we'd all just drive Camrys. So treat yourself to the tires you want, have fun, and spend the extra $15 a month on gas. Live.

So true you never know how much time you have. 3 weeks ago I almost took "The dirt nap", it was out of the blue. You know it's bad when everyone at hospital asks for your emergency contact, if you have any living will, organ donation and do not resuscitate on record. A few days afterwards my sister told me that they had her on phone during my surgery, and afterwards the surgeon talked to her how close it was.

So glad you pulled through! I hope you have many great years ahead of you.
