2020 Gladiator Rubicon Launch Ed., bought it used with 20k on it. Put on 2k miles so far Came with AMP research steps on it and must have something to lock the stop/start. Came out today and it was stone dead, both remotes wouldn't work, steps didn't work etc. Jumped it with another car- got it started but now I have no backup cam, the steps do not work, and the Uconnect is updated to a new look and is missing a lot of features- offroad pages etc. I do remember the Uconnect asking me to update it about a week ago but that is all.

Wanted to hop on here and see if anyone has had similar issues that may be an easy fix before driving myself nuts at the dealer.

Thanks

Radio will reconfigure after it does a deep sleep reboot one or two times. It is a factory default mode from either an update or loss of power for a significant amount of time.

Thanks for the help ! So now the radio is back to normal, just my steps aren’t working. Wondering why it was dead in the first place.

Don’t know if you did or not, but check the in-line fuse, it could have blown. It should be close to the battery on the wire harness for the steps.

Ended up pulling the in line fuses and it must have reset the steps. They both work now

2020? One or both OEM batteries probably need to be replaced (or deleted), or you'll be doing this again.
Yes 2020. Oh man i completely forgot about this. I saw a few videos about people dealing with this and doing a bypass.
Is this a common issue? Or a recall?

Not a recall, but quite common.
Personally, I'd do the AUX battery bypass, which is pretty simple and easy, and then go ahead and replace the main cranking battery with a quality AGM replacement.

You can replace both if you're really into the Auto Stop/Start thing.

Bypass is:
Disconnect the AUX ground and isolate/insulate it to prevent incidental contact.
Then remove fuse F42 to disable the ESS system.
It will perform perfectly fine, just not turn itself off and on at stops, and there will be no error codes or lights.

Yeah, 3 year mark seems to be where there is a uptick in the batteries needing to be replace.

Got it. Appreciate the advice ! I bought the JT used and it already has the start/stop disabled. I just haven’t figured out how the previous owner did it lol. Will def look into that bypass

Assuming there isn't a tazer installed check the harness going to the SGW module. One of the below modules might be installed in line.

Any Jeep. Even Grand Cherokee.
And it also impacts the 4xe. I'm seeing a lot of early 4xe owners saying their battery needs to be replaced.
Since there's no aux battery in a 4xe, I guess it's proof that the main battery is just as likely to go after 2.5 to 3 years.
(Some of the 4xe long-timers have words for Jeep supplied batteries.)

Very likely since that's about the only way unless you make your own timer module. Dang, I wish I could find that YT video where the guy did it for under 10 bucks using a simple timer chip and some cheap electronics. His method was really clever.

It's a bit more than $10, but I used one of these timer relays in my Highlander since there was nothing commercially available.

I just figured out what contacts the ESS button closed and spliced the relay in.

I think I had the program set on power up (when the vehicle started) to wait 5 seconds and then close the contact for a second or so.. Worked perfectly.

Small Miniature Timer on Off Cycling delay Relay 0.1 sec to 9999 Hours. 3V 12V 18V DC 5A. Power On Off delay, Cycling. Industrial Control and Hobby. and Programmer https://a.co/d/8Mr13Eg

That would work.
The one I saw was where it was literally a timer chip with a delay and there was something else about it as well, man I have to try to find that again. I was thinking he'd used a 555 chip.
