I agree with that.
And honestly, a 5% discount is not worth my time scrolling. I've NEVER had a 5% discount tip a decision for me. So when companies post about a 5% discount, and then spam the thread with "reviews" from people, I just roll my eyes and ignore it.

If you're talking about promotions being offered by sponsors...well that's how sites like this are able to operate. Sponsors foot the bill, and in return they are allowed to post for their business. If you don't like their posts, don't click on them. It's a trivial inconvenience to be able to use the forum for free.

If it really bothers you though, feel free to host an unsponsored version of the forum, and I'll follow you over. I just don't think you'll be happy footing the bill for it for very long.

Have you ever run/operated/administered/paid the bills on a forum?
I have. (and still do - just paid the bill for more SQL space and hosting and bandwidth)
It takes money and the more members and the more posts and the more traffic, the more money it takes.
Ya want everything for free like Gen Z?
Who's gonna pay if they don't have advertising and/or marketing?
Frankly, I don't really see any big deal - a few ads, sponsors and so on help pay the bills - it's FREE to you so why do you care?

Wait until you see what Youtube is doing to YT TV. Thankfully we don't have that but soon the age of skipping ads will be gone.
At least with OTA TV, it's free to watch, paid for by sponsors and advertisers. YT TV you pay and there's still ads.

Gripe about using a free-to-you place and the minor inconveniences that help pay the bills......... how about they just make this subscription-based. You pay $50/month to be a member so they can get rid of ads and sponsors.

Sounds like people on fakebook griping about the price of certain car parts being listed - and those who gripe have zero interest in the parts to begin with.
The solution is extremely simple - don't click, don't look, don't buy. We still have the freedom to ignore things that "annoy" us and it seems like these days everyone is annoyed by so many simple things.

I think the people of the older generations who had to really "work" for getting good info before the internet value these tools so much more then the people born with a smart phone in their hand. Nobody has to know shit anymore because Siri will just find a video to show you how.

Maybe if this was a paid membership site, it would weed out a lot of problems.

I kinda like the fact that this site also informs of new JT products and that members can also sell their stuff here and others buy. It is a feature of this forum.

Wow Alyn, way to get viciously attacked for blowing off a little steam. . I too grow a bit tired of being constantly carpet-bagged and propagandized, no matter the media. At least they’re up front about it.

Can you image how terrible this forum would be if it was the NPR or PBS model. Yuck. I’ve just talked myself into feeling the adds aren’t that bad. .

Adblockers take care of the site ads, threads by spammers are something else.

If you think this forum is bad, head over to the Corvette forums. That place is filled with sponsor ads. Even in the member marketplace they're allowed to spam their goods.

I recently looked to see if there was a paid membership on this forum to bump me up, was surprised there was not. IH*MUD has a paid membership.

I wouldn't be opposed to it.
